Well Labour are at it again: a complete misunderstanding of the electorate’s psyche. The non-entity that resigned (McDonald?) was a self-proclaimed protector of the “ordinary working people”. No - you were defending a form of working people that ceased to exist around three decades ago. The left of the party still doesn’t understand what selfish means and that by and large humans are selfish - Maslow did a triangle diagram about the hierarchy of needs and paying for other people’s lifestyles wasn’t really a big feature.
The current fuel debacle should be pointing out what voters are like. The people rushing out to fill their cars up on an hourly basis in case some evaporated aren’t all dyed in the wool Tories in the same way not everyone at a food bank is a fully signed up Labour voter. I assume this is the message Starmer is trying to get across when I read of the infighting taking more of Centre stage than fighting Tory policy and actions. The vociferous Twitterati are clear that he’s not the man for the party, as are a lot of the MPs that hold their seat simply because a few generations of voters are indoctrinated to not change the box they cross in the ballot (which applies to the blue side of the House too). Those seats are becoming rarer with each day that the socialist views are visible to an electorate that is not that interested in the plight of others.
As it stands from this conference there remains an unopposed government for the foreseeable future.

Don't blame me I voted remain and Liberal!
How the labour party still aren't making gains in the latest cluster f**K I find rather depressing. Dare I say bring back the Blair years. Starmer seems ok but obviously has his hands tied and he can't go centre as all his MP's seem intent on socialism. Angela Rayner is unelectable surely as she seems rather unstable given her latest comments and history.

Labours best chance is that Farage or similar start up with a party that splits the Tory vote. Not possible any longer as the Tory party moved so far to avoid that last time Farridge would need to start ordering every media presence to be in red, white and black only. Labour’s problem is the presence of idealists in positions across the party. I worked on a project with a former party member who left because of just that presence and the lack of ability or appetite to rein it in. As seen from the Corbyn leadership election there are those who feel that lefter is the only way and that moderation is defeatist. There is a downright hatred of Blair, their party’s most successful leader bar none, because principles are better than acceptance by those outside the party. To keep that hatred of moderation going there is an underbelly of youth that attack anyone in their own peer group that isn’t an outright leftie and a swathe of those like my own middle aged cousins who are rabidly socialist from their north London homes with 7 figure values and a holiday home they inherited and rent out (capitalist swine) on the Norfolk coast.

Well this is where I have some sympathy for one Dominic Cummings and his desire to break the party duopolies here and in the US on the basis they have become stagnant repositories in hock to tribalism, identity politics and vociferous minorities on their outer fringes.
I find both the Tories and Labour unvotable as it stands. Would sir prefer a bucket of cold sick or some maggot-infested roadkill?

Labour just aren't a party I could vote for right now and a large part of that is Starmer. He may be a fellow gooner but that aside I find it hard to know what he stands for and all his party seem to be doing is arguing amongst themselves. The Tories have been tripping over themselves to give Labour ammunition to lob at them but all they seem to do is bicker within.
I dont see Starmer lasting until the next general election at this rate. But who's their alternative. One could see Saddiq Khan or Andy Burnam wanting a go at it but I couldn't vote for them either as they come across in theie roles as mayor as perpetual whingers. I'm sure Angela Rayner would also like to show that a council estate girl who was a single mum at 16 can make it to the top of politics, but admirable as that is, I can't see the country as a whole voting her in as PM.

Herself just asked me who (the captioned!) Sir Keir Starmer actually is and what he does! Not that she's really interested in the day-to-day life of politics, but sums up the probelms Labour have I'd say.

When Starmer was interviewed this morning on the TV they asked who his favorite Bond was, he answered he doesn't have a preference however the next Bond should defiantly be a woman. How out of touch can you get!

How out of touch can you get! Which PR twat told him to say that? Barbara Broccoli owns the franchise and I can't begin to imagine her considering a female Bond for more than a millisecond.

I think his natural position is to be woke, apologetic and worthy. He strikes me as someone who feels guilty for being male, white & wealthy. I've got no issue with that, as long as I don't have to join in with his nonsense.

I've got no issue with that, as long as I don't have to join in with his nonsense. The main issue I have with that kind of position is simply: has he ever met a grass-roots Labour voter or been into their community? Yes there are lots of "woke" members and vociferous Labour voters but by and large they are from what is now not allowed to be described as "normal" family backgrounds (as he himself comes from) where one or both parents works (or wants to), kids watch YouTube and TikTok videos of step-dancing and they have a family TV night watching dancing / cooking / Ant and Dec or a movie. He's not appealing to them and his working background in a traditionally non-labour field means he's not appealing to the woke brigade either. Perhaps Farage should stand for Labour leader?

He's not appealing to them and his working background in a traditionally non-labour field means he's not appealing to the woke brigade either. And therein lies the issue that so many in power or wanting power suffer from - politicians and senior civil servants. Utter divorce from the lives of the people they are supposed to govern, represent or ask to vote for them. People with charisma (Blair, Boris) or conviction (Thatcher, Farage, Trump) can get through that barrier. The rest just can't. So they try and say what they think people think is the right thing and as the people surrounding them are as unconnected as they are, that's never going to work. The whole recent "people with a cervix" issue proves the point entirely. Trouble is the MSM are also captive of the unconnected crowd, hence the news is just as bad. So way too much coverage is given to minority issues; "right speak" is not called out as the utter crap is actually is; and people get frustrated.

There is simply no place in the modern world for the traditional labour party and some people cannot or will not see it. I bet the tories are wetting themselves seeing Starmer removed and Rayner in.

There was a thoughtful piece in The Times comparing Johnson and Rayner and saying that for all their political differences, they are similar politicians, both being shoot from the hip types, eager to be liked and get the limelight, keen on upturning the applecart and generally not bothering with finer details when there are big soundbites to be had.

Really? As far as I remember, Boris has never called his opponents scum. Or to credit her with the full quote - "We cannot get any worse than a bunch of scum, homophobic, racist, misogynistic, absolute pile of banana republic, Etonian piece of scum." Her comment is right up there with Hilary Clinton's "deplorables" rant.

I just wish we had one party worth voting for. I wouldn't give the time of day to Labour or Conservative at the moment and I don't have much faith in any of the other current parties...... a bit like the last USA election, there wasn't really a "good" candidate anywhere to be seen

He had to apologise to an entire city once. He just does so using the disguise of similes and florid language to mask the immediate impact. I don't condone Rayner's words but I think she just uses plainer, more pungent English than Johnson.
