I know of a LHD F11 that’s available at this price. Heated and cooled seats…. 8mpg .. .. ..

I've saved that one, will try and phone them tomorrow if I can make a space in my diary. The second one is gone, but the first looks rather nice indeed! Pity it's so far away though, as I'd much rather have a sit in it and een a test drive if possible. We've had 3 road trip purchases of used cars - I think it makes it a bit more special. The dealer would hold the car for a small deposit with no strings attached if you didn't like it. Interesting - how small is 'small'?

Normally a £500 deposit will hold a car until you see it (within a reasonable time).
However I know some dealers have been asking for £1,000 more recently because of the demand (that was a Mercedes).

I think I paid £350 holding deposit on the L200.

I paid £500 deposit for my car. I had seen/driven it already but expected it to be more as they were fitting the deployable side steps (discounted to £3k) before payment of the balance.

My one experience of an A6 - a 67 plate 2 litre avant quattro - was deeply unimpressive. Fine for cruising the motorway at 100, mediocre everywhere else, not fast, not economical and no better put together than anything else new I've been in. The bluetooth music playing was particularly irritating and about 100 worse than the Mighty Micra. I knew there'd been an Audi of some flavour you had detested. Was that the one which had the autobox in it, with the 3-second lag built in? That's the one. A truly awful car for something so modern.

The first one doesn't have the HK stereo upgrade.

The first one doesn't have the HK stereo upgrade. For that alone it would be worth making the journey down for the grey one. Enjoy the drive back listening to your favourite tunes.

Well, I've been giving this 'new car' idea a bit of a rethink, especially in regards to 5-series BMWs!
The main driver for the idea was the recent occurrence of a rather disconcerting, occasional nosie from the front of the Skoda. Although I had the car thoroughly checked over by two different garages after my we eincident the other week, there's still always a nagging doubt something is wrong, isn't there? Or maybe that's just me. Anyway.
I reckon it may be either the CV joint or wheel bearing on the offside front; i.e. the one that took the brunt of the impact. So into the local mechanic it goes next week.
As for a change of car, I've given myself a bit of a shake, and a reality check. (awake til gone 2 this morning actually, thinking about all this!) Other than the noise, which attacked my mechanical sympathy/anxiety nerve, the mighty Skoda still does all I want it to do, in comfort, economically and more importantly, it's a known quantity. Other than memory seats, I'm not sure there's anything else I really want in a car, plus it has less than a year to go until it's paid off. The other, BIG thing, and perhaps the thing that's brought me back to earth, is that my daughter gets married next summer, and Bank of Dad is going to take a big hit!
So it remains for me to say a huge thankyou to JohnC for his efforts in sourcing a decent 5-series for me; I really do appreciate it sir! I actually parked up beside a very recent one today and found that it's a lot bigger than the Octavia, to the point I'm not at all sure it would fit in my (rather narrow) driveway! Thanks to everyone else for their thoughts as well, if the urge to get a 5-series in the future falls upon me, I'm much better informed now than I was.

Holy thread resurrection Batman!!
I thought I'd take the quest for a 5-series touring back to where it belongs. Saw this one a while ago, and the've just relisted it - anything glaringly obvious as to why it hasn't gone yet?
(Other than it's whiteness, of course!)

Other than the colour…not really, but it’s quite light on options. I’d want Professional Nav to fill out the screen housing and there are a few other things that would be nice to have such as a panoramic roof.

White is definitely not on the list of popular colours for BMW estates. Otherwise I'm not sure. The ad doesn't tell you anything about the car at all other than its age and mileage and so being as it's a 520d there's not likely to be a list as long as your arm of factory fitted optional extras but it looks like it has all most people would need, the rest of the ad is just a load of guff about the dealer being a proud family run business (why do so many AT ads do this? Do they really think we give a shit?).

In a wide choice of 520d estates this one looks be missing some of the nice optional extras which many buyers would be looking for. This will hinder its sale now and again when the new owner comes to move it on.
As Martin said, you would probably want the upgraded sat nav system and the panoramic roof and, for me at least, an upgraded sound system is essential.

I used to do their audit..... That's not helpful is it I'd want it to look nicer, so definitely not in white and definitely with an inch bigger wheels plus pimp glass in the back. I'd also want the pro nav, not least for the fact that the rotary controller by the gearstick looks nicer with that fitted (it's bigger and more sharp edged!).

The options did seem a bit light, though the pano roof (for me) is something I'd rather not have tbh!
Point taken re the 530 Andy, but realistically (an very sadly) I think that's too much motor for round-the-doors. Been there with the Legacy, albeit in petrol flavour, and it absolutely kills the economy.

For comparison according to the OBC I'm getting about 43 with the 430 compared to 44/45 with the 320. The latter was an xDrive which might dent things a bit. Otherwise the driving is similar between the 2 cars.

I find with 2-ltre vs. 3-litre, there is very little difference in mpg when cruising on a run, but a significant difference when driving 'around the doors'.

That was my thinking, though without any sort of back-to-back comparison. I was also thinking that servicing costs would be higher for the 3-litre option, bigger bills if things go bang, etc. It does sound significantly better though, along with the extra 'shove'. Not really doing a good job of talking myself out of it, am I?

Well worth the small increase in fuel costs imo. You’ve a better chance of getting a decent spec on a 530d as well. How many miles do you do a year?

Overall, it's anywhere between 12 and 15K, depending how often we go to the caravan, day trips etc. It's a bit difficult to judge really, as Covid put the same travel limitations on us as everybody else initially, which greatly reduced my mileage even as late as January/February this year. I know I'm (probably) catastrophising when it comes to break-downs, servicing costs etc, but a big bill is something I definitely don't need any time soon.

It’s more because it’s a G31 not an F11. Having had both back to back the interior of the G31 is worth the difference.
