I go away to have a complete break from work and the drudgery of "normal" life. Since the children left home, I prefer to go out of the peak time when many places are populated with loads of young families - but then I would hate to lie on a beach or by a swimming pool for a week or two. I've tried to go around May and/or September-October to miss the crowds but still have a chance of reasonable weather. I prefer to take a city break and explore somewhere interesting such as New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Berlin, Vancouver, Dundee.
This year with the restrictions in place due to the ever-present threat of covid, I have a feeling that I won't be going anywhere abroad. Was hoping to do a Christmas Market with younger daughter again since we missed out last year due to covid, but at the moment it also looks highly unlikely - was aiming for Berlin twice this year, Festival of Light in September then the Christmas Markets in December.... maybe at the end of 2022?

The weather today at my mum’s: Outside our window: It’s the 12th of July and it’s not warm, thunder and lightning abound and it’s wetter than a MILF’s knickers at Magic Mike Live. Aat least the grass is green and the flowers are in bloom. Oh hang on, so are They at mothers….. When the weather gets bad again, can you please post something similar as it did the trick!

Indeed. And in fact even I couldn't help feeling slightly smug at the weekend as I sat on a Suffolk beach in glorious hot sunshine whilst my wife complained that it was wet and grey down on Italy's Adriatic coast where she is! One in the eye for Italian chauvinism about how dreadful our weather is.

Well possibly BA knows something we the public don't yet. Our flights for 12 August have just been cancelled with no alternative offered - they seem to have block-cancelled.

Linate, yes but it's over three hours away and Milan is a major business city so along with Rome has stayed open throughout. But we normally fly to Bologna and that's what has been cancelled.
Mercifully out of an abundance of caution I made double travel plans - I have an refundable Eurotunnel booking for the same day. And Ryanair is still flying.
That wasn't the point - I just think they wouldn't cancel that route if they were expecting demand.
