Autocar have a news item on the new Hyundia Ioniq 5. We've had a thread on it already, so this isn't about that car. But more about aspects of the design that put me off ever wanting one. The interior. It reminds me way too much of an Austin Allegro. Which to my mind is no place I want go spend any time. Pretty much the same feelings I have about the VW ID3 interior.
And that set me thinking about the way that car interiors seem to be going. We seem to be back in the 1970's. This move towards no buttons and screens plus electric motors is leaving interiors and dashboards very empty. Like low end cars were in bygone days. Better cars gave lots of dials and buttons, big centre consoles, a feeling of being in a cockpit.
Now it's just acres of plastic and very little to look at. Even the steering wheels are ugly.
