7" is enough to make the difference of whether it would fit in my garage or not. The old Galaxy I had was 4641mm long according to the stats, and that only just fitted inside lengthways

Kuga: 4541 long x 2086 wide (incl mirrors) x 1749 high X3: 4726 long x 2089 wide (incl mirrors) x 1676 high I knew it was significantly longer then the Kuga but I have my suspicions about the height So, they are same width, the X3 is lower and I certainly wouldn’t say 7” is enormous….. 😀😀 Seriously, you're right, there's nothing in it footprint wise though Chris' figures do illustrate the Kuga's rather ungainly height which gives it rather odd proportions.

That looks good. Burn me also, I like the outgoing X3. I don't find it wilfully ugly like some of the G-generation BMW's, including the grille. The facelifted model looks terrible imo, the taillights look aftermarket.
A pre-GPF X3 40i (not many around!) is my guilty pleasure.

I think the X3 is a bit boring, but it works.
It's an effective, pleasant car, so I guess it's a sensible purchase.

The upside of an X3 M40i is that is would have many of the features I like about my car including the freakishly good engine/gearbox combo. It would suit my needs very well. The downside is that I look at one and simply cannot summons the necessary enthusiasm required to fork out double the value of my car for one. It’s just a taller, less handsome version of the same car, and the added usability is just not enough. Rightly or wrongly a Macan or a Velar or even F-Pace just appeals more.

So this'll make you laugh. Sort of.
Stationary at a narrow bridge, giving way to oncoming traffic there was a tremendous bang at the rear of the car and a motorcyclist flew past my driver's side window, before skidding down the road with his motorcycle. I got out of the car and examined the elderly motorcyclist who was conscious but unable to get up or move his right leg. I phoned for an ambulance and then the police and waited for them to arrive. Fortunately, in the line of traffic waiting to come across the bridge towards me were an off duty paramedic, and off duty policeman, and a doctor. Paramedic, then police and then ambulance arrived and road was closed for an hour while they took statements from me and witnesses. A couple in the car coming towards me stated that they had seen the motorcycle approach the rear of my car and slow before attempting to overtake and get across the bridge before they crossed. The motorcycle was a Triumph Bonneville 650 of some vintage so I pointed out to the police that it was more likely he found himself unable to stop quick enough with the all round drum brakes and then tried to swerve to avoid me, coming a right cropper. The guy is 73 and they've taken him to hospital with a suspected broken hip/pelvis and possibly arm. I think he'll be OK as he was quite lucid when talking to us. Damage to my car is smashed rear driver's side offside light cluster, creased rear quarter panel. scuffing to that and rear passenger door and some damage to the wheel arch trim. The bike survived remarkably intact with just a smashed headlight, indicator and bent foot rest. I'm thankful we're not looking at a fatality but I know this is going to be a right chew on insurancewise.

On the positive side, the now shortened X3 might fit in Chris’s garage.

What a bummer getting your brand new car side swiped though. Glad the old guy is as well as can be expected in the circumstances but I bet if he has a wife, that will be his last ride out!

Yes, not great at any time but even worse when it's a brand new car. Hopefully the insurance/repair process will be relatively painless.

That’s not fair, but if he hadn’t bought such a ridiculously massive car, the cyclist would have had a better chance of avoiding it.

Sorry to hear this - at least it presumably cannot be considered in any way your fault. Yeah, it is what it is. We could have been talking about a fatality. As I said the witnesses were trying to put blame on him but I said to the police it really looked like an accident to me and that's the way they are going to treat it. Once he was safely in the the ambulance we had a bit of a laugh with them when they got brooms out to slweep the road, asking if they had yo go on a special course and the usual Trigger's broom comments.

I hope I could have the presence of mind to be as magnanimous as you are being and were at the time of this incident. Good news for the biker and his machine but agree the trouble and will likely ground him. We take our freedoms where we find them tho'. Glad you are all OK and the car will hopefully get fixed soon.

I hope that the motorcyclist is also OK...... 😀 I did make sure the bike was getting picked up by a recovery truck as I expect Triumph Bonneville 650s are quite valuable. The copper was saying they attended a similar accident on Sat and the bike in question was a Brough Superior worth a conservative £60k.

Blimey that sounds like some incident and I hope the motorcyclist manages to recover ok. I suspect you're right about not being able to stop. He may have misjudged the situation and thought that you would be forcing your way across against the flow of oncoming traffic like most drivers of BMW SUVs would. Either that or the not-so-modern brakes were just not good enough for him to stop in time.

Either that or the not-so-modern brakes were just not good enough for him to stop in time. In either case the old boy ought to leave himself room to stop. Especially on an older bike that probably does have crappier brakes. Mentally, he was probably still thinking he's a ton up kid and it's the 1960's. As said above, thank goodness there was no fatality. Everyone has to scratch their new car at some point. Bob's managed it big-time in record time too maybe. Double-ouch!

600 miles in,all going well. Currently sat in a supermarket car park with a completely flat tyre, waiting for BMW assistance. What I'd give for a set of runflats now.

I can’t believe he bought a car without a spare wheel, it’s not like it isn’t big enough to fit one in…… I can say that now I have 2 x cars with spare wheels, for the first time in nearly 15 years.

BMW assist came out quickly and put a plug in it so I can get around until it’s replaced Monday. As I’ve said before, for safety’s sake, particularly my wife’s, I prefer runflats.

I’ve said the same thing about runflats many times. Unfortunately the one time I had a puncture in a RFT it was late at night and I was too far from my destination so I had to be rescued. But at least I could get safely off the motorway and into the services.

Perhaps the title of this thread has a typo, instead of "flak", read "flat" ??

Shit the bed, Bob. Was that car cursed by a witch before you picked it up?
The only car here with a spare is the vintage car. One has runflats and another, a can of gunge.
