That makes sense and explains my marginal disappointment in the main beam on the truck (dipped is superb but there isn't a lot of difference between dipped and main). The legacy had Bi-Xenons with a supplemental main beam halogen and was a lot better. Car looks ace. Is the roof grey or black? If the latter I would be looking at a Renovo kit to bring it back. Time for a massive LED light bar! The V60 had bi xenon (so dipped and main) supplemented by halogen high beams, given awesome light output that the bi xenon only of the VRS, whilst still good, can't match. If the halogen high beams are a bit crap some upgraded, decent Osram bulbs will sort it. Yes, I'm tempted by a discreet number plate mounted one. My only concern is having to tap into the CAN system to get a main beam signal to switch the relay. CANM8 do a kit.

Who had 6 weeks in the 'When will Mark start modifying his L200?' sweepstake I had 2 weeks, but we’re assuming he hasn’t done anything to it yet....is that really true?

It is as it came from the dealer apart from the tyres, but that's not a modification as they are the same size, just a different tread pattern.
I also said tempted. I quite like the front end as it is.

When the weather is better (and I'm over this manflu!) I'll take it out in the dark some time and will find out pretty quickly then. Driving with the top down in the dark, on rural roads, is always good fun - I used to take the Caterham out like this in winter and it was a hoot, it had shift lights on it, and the carbon metallic brake pads I ran used to spark like a Catherine Wheel under heavy braking... If I can find a place to put them, a bank of shift lights would not be a terrible idea on the Boxster - the engine revs very enthusiastically and I love being able to know the revs precisely only from peripheral vision...You will soon become able to know the revs to within about 500 rpm, based entirely on the noise the engine is making.

It has had the full ALF prep now with the weird Armor All Shield sort-of-wax stuff that I decided was the best of what I have "in stock" when I had too much time on my hands exactly a year ago. Also the glass and headlights are Rain X'd, etc. Now I have had a good poke around it really is in quite exceptional, remarkable condition, you worry about older cars and it's had 4 owners, but it's ludicrously fresh. After which I took it out for a drive and it snowed The 118i cab Tina bought was also in amazing condition yet a 2011 with loads of owners - I could barely find a single cosmetic fault on that and it was such a shame it had a gutless engine as it was so well packaged fitting 4 adults in such a tiny thing with a soft top. Clearly some of these cars are well fettled toys, it is hard to use a car 24/7 and have it this clean, which is why I still haven't had the XFR's rear bumper sprayed where I reversed into a post a year ago... I doubt you could use this sort of car as a daily driver and keep it this clean. I won't - its going on track - so I need to not be too precious, though it will get respectful and limited track running. The brakes look remarkably like the Brembo callipers used on the 156GTA (which were also on the Evo 7 and others), very familiar. I don't know if the hood is quite new (looks like it could be) or has been treated, but it's laughably hydrophobic - water just sits on top of it in almost perfect spheres looking like ice, very odd. The BMW and Audi hoods just soaked up water. Overall my biggest surprise is how much a true old school sports car it is, and how different that is to a modern typical car. The gearbox whine, engine noise, heavy controls, close ratio gearbox, sitting so low in a slim (yet for me comfortable so far) seat - its all more reminiscient of the various things I've punted down a pit lane than anything I've done serious road miles in. I wonder how many people drove one regularly because their partner was into cars, and yet he/she was not, and hated it

That was why my Dad ended up selling his Boxster, which he bought new back in 1998 and kept for about 5 years iirc. He loved it and wanted to use it for weekends away and longer trips, but my mum enjoyed it less and less over time, so he ended up trading it in against a new car for my mum. Thankfully Lindsay loved it and the Porsche love is still very strong, so we'll be back.

On a recent walk Susan pointed to a very shiny MX5 and said I might go back to one of those. She always loved her MX5's but a baby put paid to all of that. The baby is now driving herself so the priorities have changed a bit and I don't think I would have any difficulty persuading her to try a Boxster instead especially when she loves the performance of the i-Pace, the MX5 might feel a bit pedestrian.
