The grey one sounds very interesting. However just remember happy wife happy life (although she's not your wife). Good luck. Yeah but sometimes begging forgiveness is easier than seeking permission! I agree but I would never spend £15K without having a consensus. It's all about doing the groundwork beforehand so that it is accepted even if it is a bit grudgingly.

This reminds me of various stories I've heard of city boys who are the "big I am" in the office and then when bonus time comes around the new jacuzzi room is ordered before they've had a chance to get to a car showroom. This has gone as far as one having a Ferrari in a garage a short distance from his home and on a sunny Sunday he'd get up early and "go for a cycle ride" for fitness purposes, all the way to the rented garage..

WE discussed it at breakfast and while she can't really see the point there was no strong objection and she's the last person to tell me what I can and can't spend my money on. She has more wealth overall than me and our financial affairs are totally separate, I just pay her money for bills/rent...
Since when, I've seen it and bought it :-)
More later as I'm just back into the house and onto a conf call - but it was a lovely drive, even in the rain, and sounds incredible...

The silver or grey one?

They do sound great with the factory sports exhaust, assuming you bought the grey one.

For those of use with PWD (Porsche Withdrawal Symptoms), you could give us a blast of exhaust noise from cold start up.

Well they said grey but its basically silver :-) It's a slightly darker silver, with a dark grey leather interior (not leather dash, which is fine by me, that kind of thing I'm not questioning on my first porker). Yes, the low miles one. To be totally honest I saw the spec on the web last night, had "the conversation" here, then reserved it first thing, did my meeting, then drove it. I've been looking a few weeks now and its a great spec and mileage and the price (15,995) is not taking the mickey either. Also - genuinely - all the guys at Brookspeed said it drives like a new car, has been parked in a garage all its life, has full Porsche history, good tyres, doesn't need a service for a year. 4 people called between me reserving it and driving it, some offered them more money!! I was not that fussed about most of the spec items out there and buying on condition more, but Porsche Sports Exhaust was an absolute dream spec, Silver I preferred as it doesn't show marks/muck, PASM I decided I'd rather have than not (it still felt acceptable more than comfortable to me so glad it had it) and memory seats I love too. It would have been a shame not to have Bose too (which still sounds thin compared to the Jag stereo), I don't think it has Xenons but won't be driving much in the dark... I really wanted the wind deflector as well and it has that. I don't know Porsches well so can't compare but the engine noise was superb from inside and out, it has the lovely low speed woofle that was lost with the DI engines (2008> 3.4's in this case) which only make noise when pushed. My car sounded quiet on the way back (not typical!) and the throttle response and torque were superb as well, miles better than the 2.9 Cayman I drove. It felt more immediate than the XFR and that's saying something as most cars feel dog slow to me now after 6 years in 5 litre jags. Benefits of a light car I suppose. Overall its deliciously pointy and brimming with feedback, feels very special to drive, and I love the control weights (heavy!). The gearbox, clutch and brakes were just so similar to the Caterham I owned that I felt right at home, I have barely driven manaul gearboxes in years but was smooth and at home immediately. All in all a good day - the summer wheels are back on the Jag and I really enjoyed that as well - we may be stuck "local" for another summer but I'm going to have a blast now at least, and I will get some track instruction for both of us and do the odd trackday too. It doesn't have Nav (I prefer the look of the dash without it and would always use a different device anyway) and it comes with a Porsche car cover, which I'm guessing was not cheap originally... Lastly wheels/tyres - it has Bridgestones on the back Michelins on the front, the rears very good the fronts about 5-6mm. I queried this and apparently its a well used spec in some quarters, weird.... For a car with low use I was pleasantly suprised how grippy they were in the wet, my car is much more tail happy, so fair enough... It has the basic 17" 5 spoke wheels with the narrow spokes, which actually I like and look to be low maintenance - I would much rather a 17 than a 19 wheel for sure... Anything but the 16's on some 2.7's looks good on them IMHO. This is the one (no pics) www.brookspeed.com/used/cars/porsche/boxster/24v-s-105

Sounds great. If it was raining I assume you had the roof up, just wait until you experience the full Rev range with it down! I’m going to have to force myself to stay off Autotrader for a bit!
But ALF.....Porker.....please don’t!

Great choice! Never heard of Brookspeed, but they're 15 minutes down the road from me. As and when I find myself in a position to buy a Porsche, I know where to look 🙂

Sounds like a great purchase for you, but if it rains for the whole of April now, I'm going to give you hell. On the permission v forgiveness approach to these sort of decisions, life experience tells me that whilst just doing what you want (and even seeking forgiveness) might seem OK at the time and you think you've got way with it, women, like elephants, have incredibly long memories. So payback always happens in the end..... even íf you don't realise that it has happened.
