In theory and with luck (?) the 2021 Formula 1 season kicks off in just 2 weeks' time. In case anyone is interested in participating in another little forum challenge, the "runners and riders" currently look like this:
Mercedes-AMG : Hamilton and Bottas Red Bull : Verstappen and Perez Ferrari : Leclerc and Sainz McLaren: Ricciardo and Norris Aston Martin : Stroll and Vettel Alpine : Alonso and Ocon Alpha Tauri : Gasly and Tsunoda Alfa Romeo : Raikkonen and Giovinazzi Haas : Mazepin and Schumacher Williams : Russell and Latifi
In case of confusion: Aston Martin : Formerly Racing Point (Pink Mercedes, now Green Mercedes) Alpine : Formerly Renault

I do wonder how pre-season testing will play out. It’s unusual that testing will be taking place at the same circuit as the season opener. It will very dirty initially, and as each day starts, it won’t be representative at all of the conditions in the Grand Prix itself. The daylight running will be used for general testing, and as night falls on each day, it will be a good opportunity to test for the GP, which will take place at night.
Nobody is going to be doing low-fuel flyers. Nobody will want to give an indication of how fast they will be in qualifying in a few weeks’ time.
It would be great to stand trackside next weekend. With all the traction zones the circuit has, it would be pretty clear which cars are handling well.

I’m in. I diarised all the F1 and MotoGP races last week.
I’m not going to be very popular this year...

I think the McLaren could be the surprise of the season. They have more wind tunnel hours compared to Mercedes and Red Bull, and by changing engine supplier they have been allowed to change the rear-end without falling foul of the token system. Its something that other teams haven't been able to do. If I were a smaller team I would change engine supplier every year.

I think they've done better out of last years driver merry go round than Ferrari.

Indeed. I think Ricciardo at McLaren is going to be a great combination, I'm convinced that McLaren have taken a step forward. There seems to be a lot of interest in McLaren's diffuser, I think its a good way of increasing downforce to mitigate the loss that teams have incurred as a result of the 2021 floor.
