......and a pickup truck. The only mark on the entire truck is a small parking ding the size of a pinhead on the driver's door and you have to be looking for it. The rest of it is immaculate inside and out. First impressions are very good. It is very quiet - in fact the engine can hardly be heard unless it is revved past 3k rpm. Seats are comfy, infotainment system works well with Android Auto, FM and DAB and sounds pretty good. The screen doubles up as the reversing camera. Just as well it has one as it is a long bugger and that is going to take some serious getting used to - in fact it feels huge apart from the width. Lane departure warning is irritating and defaults to on at the moment, but it can be set to default to off, which I am going to do as narrow roads mean it keeps going off unnecessarily. Ride is jiggly over rough surfaces, but this is to be expected from a leaf sprung vehicle with no weight in the back. I love the looks including the "Sports Bars" and I really don't think I am going to need a canopy. I was marginally irritated to discover that Mitsubishi don't have a locking facility for the tailgate and this is a dealer (or aftermarket) option. I suppose the thought is that if a canopy is fitted, this locks and stops the tailgate opening and in fact, the same is true of the Mountain Top I have fitted so that is actually OK, but I may fit the locking system at a later date as some extra security. It comes with carpet mats, so I have ordered some mud trays in rubber and some heavy duty seat covers and I have fitted a rubber stable mat to the rear bed as my toolbox was sliding all over on the plastic liner. I honestly loved my Defender, but I think I am going to be very happy with this truck. Once the spring appears, I am going to wash all the salt off the underside and get it rustproofed. I already have a full Dinitrol kit to do it.

Just don't tell us where you hide all the bodies...
Joking apart, is the red paint a safety feature - easy to spot out on the moors in all weathers!?

Is the chassis easy to replace?

That looks very smart. I expect it will be a lot more car-like as a daily driver.

Well, as someone has pointed out, I'm not going to lose it in a snowdrift. I like it. It certainly makes a change from the usual black/white/grey or dark blue.

Hopefully it will fit into your life well. Sports Bars..... My advice would be to just use it, don't mess with it!

It's not getting messed with. I'm just waiting on some new 3M pads and I can get my dashcam hardwired in.

Not seen one of these for, well, I don't know how long actually, and there was a black one parked across the road from our building this afternoon! Must say, I prefer it in red .. .. ..

Tidy. Inside, it's certainly from a different geological era compared to the Land Rover. Have fun with it!

Looks like a decent piece of kit and where you are it will no doubt earn its keep.

Very tidy and I'm sure it will do a great job for you. All those mod cons - you'll be going soft......
It must be nearly 2 x the length of the 90!

Superminis are about 4 metres long. Pickups between 5 and 5.5 . Really not that much of a difference.

I don't think they're any longer than a 5 series? The L200 is still a fairly old piece of kit underneath and I reckon it's a half size down on things like the Ford Ranger.

A 5 series is just under 5m, so it is bigger but a bit smaller than a Ranger. It's the same length as a LWB RR and not much shorter and a LWB S Class.

Weird. I always thought they looked quite a lot smaller!

Very nice, the Defender is a very cool car but the concept of using one everyday would be far to hardcore for me so think you've done the right thing with the L200
Whats it like in the snow? With so little weight over the rear it must move around a fair bit.

I don't know, all the snow has gone and I have no idea how these tyres perform on snow either! The Defender used to move about a lot in snow ruts, especially if it was windy. the wind spun me around last year which was interesting.
I'm going to run these Bridgestone H/T tyres until the autumn and will swap them out for either good old BFG KO2 A/Ts or Cooper A/Ts which are slightly less aggressive but both all season 3 Peak Mountain Snowflake rated.

A couple of my mates have these and swear by them. Both are used as site vehicles because of their abilities and reliability. For me, this is what you buy if you're going off road, that or a Hilux.

You do realise with a vehicle that red your mates down the pub are going to nickname you Fireman Sam?

Saw a brand new Hilux today. It looks OK in photos, but in reality, the front end doesn't look great. The DRLs are tucked inboard at the bottom. and look like aftermarket additions and the matt plastic isn't a good look either.

It reminds me of when I used to watch the BTCC back when it was really good, and part of the criteria was that the cars had to be a minimum of 4.2 metres long, which was why they were all Sierra/Mondeo/3 Series sized. That’s remained my reference point for the size of a car but I’m sure that class is much bigger now. Regarding the Mitsubishi, looks good. I’ve often wanted a pickup but could never justify having one- especially when I have friends who will lend me one if needed.
