News is that he is about to leave his position. Does anyone know why? He so strongly resisted the pressure to quit when he travelled under lockdown but now, on the eve of Brexit proper, he is going to abandon ship. Does anyone know who the power struggle in No 10 is between? Does Boris' partner have more say than we know? Is post natal depression impacting the nation or is is there something going on that none of us know about?

Is this the end of an episode of Soap?
Isn't Cummings the type of guy to leave when the thing he's planning is pretty much over the line? Perhaps it's an indication that Brexit has been achieved and (possibly) all our bridges have been burned so he can rest easy and depart just before the shit really hits the fan in the knowledge he's getting out just in time to avoid most of the fallout.
Either that or he's not getting his own way and is taking his ball to go and play with some other boys.

I think he said in Jan that if all goes to plan he'd be largely redundant by December. Whatever that means.

Fired? Sacked? Permanent garden leave minus privileges? He’s not that class of employee. Maybe there’s an impending party internal shake up and his presence would damage a few of the players. Also a maybe: that a deal HAS to be struck with the EU and it will not be “Brexit” as perceived by fundamentalist Little Engländers so he’s avoiding blame for that (as well as Boris avoiding blame for it by association).

I'm another who suspects this is the answer ^^

I think he will be blamed by the general public for pretty much anything and everything anyway. He is the bogeyman for our times. Serves him right. It's been a good week: Trump losing, great news about the vaccine, the Yorkshire Ripper dying, and Dominic Goings.

I'm another who suspects this is the answer ^^ A case of the rat jumping the sinking ship? I don't necessarily have a problem with Brexit even though I was in the remain camp but the execution has been poor and it's in large part down to him. He's been responsible for committing economic arson and is now slinking off into the night.

I think it's fair to say the execution has been notable only by its absence! What kind of execution are we talking about here? Lesser crimes would have had the head in the basket not that many years ago!
