I'm with you on the Chardonnays. Most taste like piss to me, except some of the expensive unoaked ones that taste a lot drier. Californians love their Chards and they are pretty much like treacle to me. I once ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc in CAlifornia for some colleagues and they acted as if I'd tried to poison them.
No idea what 2013 wine will taste like. Good luck is all I can say....

Greywake is a very good wine and it should be fine if it hasn't been subject to too many extreme temperature fluctuations during storage.
A decent quality Chardonnay is worlds apart from supermarket plonk.
Edit: if you were able still to find a bottle of this anywhere it would probably cost upwards of £25.00.

Never tried the Chardonnay but Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc is one of my favourites. That's a £30+ bottle of wine and assuming it hasn't got too warm, should be fine.
Good Chardonnay at that price point is a world away from the generic supermarket stuff. Kiwi vineyards tend to be more subtle with the oak than their counterparts in Oz, SA and especially California. Given Greywacke's reputation I'd expect that to be pretty spectacular.

I'm not a fan of Chardonnay, it does taste like piss a lot of the time. Generally, I find that the lighter the wine is in colour the more I like it, whereas the darker yellows (like Chardonnay) are less palatable.

Kevin was the winemaker at Cloudy Bay before Greywacke. CB were acquired by Veuve Cliquot and (I assume) he took a pay off and started again. We went to Cloudy Bay winery on our NZ trip way back in 2003. Lovely stuff and that was before it became uber-trendy. But boy is it marked up now here in the UK (I guess the current tariff does not help so hope that changes post Brexit). .

Well, I've no idea if it tastes like it oughta, but it's not off and very pleasant compared to most Chardonnays I've had in the past. Not too yellow either. Good result then. Reminds me I have half a bottle of Cremant open in the fridge that I should finish off.... Drinking on one's own...dangerous stuff...but sod it...

I know, dangerous times and all that. I bought some beer today, handy discount so I'm putting it aside for later. 24 tins so it should last a week or three. No idea why they think folk drink more under lockdown........

Glad it turned out ok. Heavily oaked Chardonnay was very ‘on trend’ a while back (quite a few years now) but the unoaked stuff has becomes far more popular over the past decade or so which is a good thing in my (very inexperienced) opinion. I enjoy a nice white but generally my go to is red which I’ll drink in any situation - White tends to be something I need to pair with an appropriate meal or sunnier situation Fully aware of how poncy that entire response sounds

We're not poncy, we drink white wine with red meat! Right, I've had two glasses and are feeling a little squiffy. Time for some cheese and onion crisps! You me both! I sat down with a weighty legal tome to do a particularly tricky legal analysis linked to, of all things, a certain type of forum-favoured luxury electric vehicle, and I must say I found my thinking usefully assisted by two glasses of chilled cremant and half a jar of assorted nuts! So much so that I think I've cracked it. I must actually also eat something more than nuts. There is a fillet steak in the fridge whose time I think has come...

Glad the wine was good. I'm a little jealous, posh Kiwi chardonnay is one of my favourite tipples.
I like fuller-bodied white wines with red meat on occasion, especially when there are a variety of flavours on the table - like a roast, barbecue or pizza.
I've also been served red wine with fish in a restaurant, though I'm not sure I'm brave enough to attempt it at home. It was a pretty meaty fish (bream I think) with a light Pinot Noir, and worked brilliantly.

When Mrs Sacamano and I went to Australia we booked a wine tasting tour of the Blue Mountain vineyards outside of Sydney. We visited some absolutely beautiful properties and when you went in they had all the smartly dressed sommeliers to explain about the wine and let you taste some exceptional vintages. Oh, and get this, they seemed to be under the misunderstanding that once you've tasted the wine you were supposed to spit it out into handily placed spitoons. Obviously I put them right on this and explained that one doesn't spit out good wine, especially Mrs Sacamano who's a pink Lambrini girl at heart. The first 4 vineyards were great, apparently we visited 2 more after that but I don't remember much about them.

Other than observing that red wine is generally filthy with either of smoked salmon or artichokes. But the notion that some foods and some wines go particularly well together is surely beyond doubt. I will, to the end of my days, remember the wine tasting I attended which really made me realise this which was in, of all very random places, far-flung El Chalten, a one-mule sort of place deep in Patagonia which exists pretty much solely as a base for exploring Mount Fitzroy and Cerro Torre. It was a bit impromptu and unlikely. After a long day hiking in the mountains, we were asked if we'd like to go to a wine-tasting in the only decent hotel in town , so thought "why not?" Anyway the sommelier, who was representing a vineyard from Argentina's famed Mendoza wine region, was this rather attractive, slightly plump girl who looked like a young Nigella Lawson, who definitely knew her stuff and had laid on the most improbably delicious event. There were five or six different wines, ranging from fizz to white to red, each of which was paired with a small dish of delicious food. We were invited to taste each wine before trying its accompanying dish, and then asked to taste the wine again. Well it was all sublime. How sublime? Well, I really don't like goat's cheese for example. But the second (I think) pairing was a white wine (a Torrentes I think) with a small goat's cheese tartlet. But the wine and the tartlet went so very well together that I ate the tartlet and even swallowed.

Goats cheese is the work of the devil. There is almost nothing I don't like food wise, but that is one - cold I can just about stomach it, but I'm still scarred from being served some warm goats cheese in the Pyrenees on a walking holiday with my dad, it smelt far too much like vomit for my liking and that's all I can think of with goats cheese now. Red wine would surely have improved in that time - white wine not always. Glad you liked it. I love a full bodied red personally, but my other halves rarely do so, and I am also partial to NZ SB and other new world whites. Many French varieties I find just too dry and bitter, weirdly. I need to have a proper taste-off on some white wines some time, reds I can often do a passable job of telling what grape it is, and even where from. I used to do the red wine with fish thing a lot - as Joey in Friends would say: Fish good, red wine good. But then I tend to eat all the food then drink all the wine (the other way around always being the start of a very bad time) so it probably matters little. When I was younger I always wanted fish when eating out, now it's usually red meat, and rarer as I get older... So the red fits! And yes Racing, that was fairly Rowley Birkin - are Saabs and Volvos still on that list of yours ?
