Bugatti was bought to build the worlds fastest production car and it did. The Chiron was introduced to add to that record and push for 300mph which, should they achieve it, will likely not be beaten by a purely ICE driven car again. So the big question with Bugatti in it's current state is simply, what's the point? With VW as a group moving most vehicles towards some form of electrification it no longer makes sense unless they can do the same with the next Bugatti model. Perhaps they feel Rimac are better placed to achieve that.

Competition is always the best driver for development so maybe Bugatti is the best placed leading the charge (pun intended).

I think Bugatti and EV is a neat fit. They've always been about innovation and speed. You don't buy them for the wonderful noise.

Porsche owns 15.5% of Rimac as it is so it's a bit of corporate shuffling. VW group put Bugatti into Rimac, get a larger chunk of Rimac and can then use a corresponding percentage of the output of Rimac against their emissions targets. Rimac get some bigger budgets and VW get some tech.
