He's a lovely bloke, he bought the Mercedes for the plate:
Somebody knocked on his door, asked if he was selling the Winnebago, offered £10k. Somehow he then agreed to let the guy take it to do it up on a kind of shared ownership basis. The Winnebago went, no contact details left and he'd signed over the V5. Never heard from them 'buyer' again.

It’s easy to park a Winnebago up and then forget where you left it.

Are your neighbours all congenital idiots and you maintain a position as the sage of the area? What with this and the Moonie wife stuff it sounds weirder than a Heston Blumenthal recipe.

There was a range of 4-cylinder W124 coupes as well - anything badged a 200CE, 230CE, E220, all of which date back to when the number matched the displacement. If it's a 300CE, 320 CE or E320, it's six-cylinder. The nicest cars are supposedly the 300CE-24vs, but that's hearsay - I've never tried one. As one that has driven thousands of kms in 300E and 320E (albeit saloons) I can advise that the 12 Valve 300E is far better than the multivalve 320E.

Reminds me of my godfather. He was an alcoholic co cp delivery driver, which perhaps wasn’t as contentious then as it would be today. Anyhow, he went out delivering one day, got drunk and lost his co op delivery van. It was never seen again. Worth mentioning that my parents still saw fit to make him my godfather after this event!

I'm definitely interested, if even just to whip the head off the engine and give the girls a taste of real spannering.

I'll sound him out on it when I next see him (from afar on the driveway, officer).

I take it the new name on the V5 is legit, if so he can find it and tow it back. Having no written contract will make it difficult but then it does the same for the idiot that has it now.
DVLA search?

Looks interesting but can you register it as road-legal on completion of build (if it passes an MoT) ?? Otherwise there will be the expense of a trailer, track days, trip to the Nurburgring etc etc

10k is a lot of money to be fair. The GBS kit is half that and has 2 seats.
