I was reading about Hamilton breaking the pole position record recently and found myself wondering why people are saying he’s the greatest of all time? There’s many ways of measuring who the greatest is but getting pp isn’t for me, an accurate measurement. After all, of a driver is on pole but doesn’t win, he’s lost the race. Anyway, I found this website and it lists stats like this in it. While Hamilton has lost a decent number of races based on the logic above, he’s actually pretty good (that goes without saying). Anyway, stats include things like most races without a win and Lance Stroll made that list... www.statsf1.com/en/statistiques/pilote.aspx

Very interesting.
Hamilton's fastest lap count is pretty low as a % of races compared with Schumacher. Presumably aided by him often leading from the front and not actually requiring to go flat out.

Given the stats you'd probably have to say that Hamilton is the best of all time but how do you compare Hamilton with someone like Fangio or Clark? If you stuck Hamilton in the 1968 Spa GP is he going to win or is he going to jump out after 5 minutes and declare the car a death trap.

One record that sticks in my mind is Schumacher's 2002 season where he finished on the podium at every race. Lewis still has a way to go to beat that, and he won't do it this year
