Can’t order the Touring MSport with anything other than the 18s, presumably due to WLTP rules but you can get the saloon with 20s. Even the BMW Germany site doesn’t allow it. I can source the 845M wheels, ask for a dealer swap or keep the 18s as winters as I intend to run the car for 5 years so the annual cost of the wheels is acceptable. Or just get a 540i. I’m not being very proactive with off loading the Gorilla so maybe that 545e Touring will be announced. If you stick with the 530e, then running the 18s as winters would be a good option providing you can get tyres for them. The standard winter setup will be the same width F/R but the wheels that will come with the car will be staggered.

The 18s look atrocious, I'd always thought they were 17 at most.
When I look out the window at my BiL's 2003 5 series it almost appears over-wheeled on 17s and my M5 looks marginally over-wheeled on 18s!
Jeff, good idea about using the 18s for winter. Either that or buy something bigger then flog them (cheaply) to me to use for winters on the new car.

Part of the issue is there is a bit too much metalwork above the wheel arch, but the main one is the depth of the sidewall as a % of the overall diameter of the wheel and tyre. The sidewall depth is the same on my car, but they look lower profile because the wheels are 22s, not that it matters so much on an SUV and it was designed for that size of wheel and tyre.

The 18s on the 530e are not staggered. Same size all round. Maybe the battery pack affects the wheel arch and fitting 19s that are an inch wider is pissing up a rope.

The standard F11 didn't have staggered tyres either, apparently that was down to the rear air suspension apparently but Alpina had a staggered setup and the wider rears were supposed to be fine on the standard car.

Is that the going rate for a set of genuine alloys and winter tyres? I have to sell the 17s winter winter wheels/tyres for the Merc, they are goodyear winters with barely 2k on them in 4 years. Think the wheels and tyres cost me about £900

Think the wheels and tyres cost me about £900 It depends on how many are available, have a look on eBay, but I'd guess £300-400. The cheapest I've sold were the 18s from the 5 series which I sold for £600, the 19s from the 7 were £1,100 and the 18s from the Boxster were about the same but all were fairly rare and BMW wheels were both the correct M Sport style.

I once got an excellent set of refurbed genuine Mercedes alloys with excellent winter tyres from some bloke up north for £400 delivered...
Unfortunately I sold them with the old Benz and could now do with a new set. Most pricing I have seen lately has been of the piss-take variety but, with me going almost nowhere at the moment, I shall bide my time and see if I can pick up a bargain in the Spring/Summer.

Just remember that to buy 4 new winter wheels and tyres from the dealer of a German marque is unlikely to cost less than about £2,500 and could easily be £4,000 depending on size. Buying a set of lightly used 2 year old wheels and tyres for £1,000 is still a good buy in my eyes, as long as they aren't damaged.

There is residual value in them as well plus it’s an extra set of tyres which will save buying at least one set of summers. The Golf has done 24k miles, the winters are less than 20% worn and the summers about 40%. There’s every chance we won’t ever have to buy new tyres for it, which is a shame in a way as I’d like to try a set of PS4S.

I too thought I might never need to buy a set of tyres but when I took the PZero's off at the end of the summer they were probably OK for one summer more. They will be done in under 10,000 miles and whilst I enjoy the acceleration and cornering, I don't do standing starts so not exactly wonderful. PS4s if I have to change them.

I know there is a variety of P Zeros with different compounds, but the N rated ones have the shortest life of the various options, longest we got out of a set of rears was just over 10k miles. No issues with grip though as they were super sticky. Never seen a tyre sit with a light coating of gravel on it after a drive.

Thanks for that, we're picking the car up later today so might have a look at these tonight.

Thanks for that, we're picking the car up later today so might have a look at these tonight. Just remember that you don't really want to run winter tyres with a tread depth much below 4mm, so that particular set doesn't have a huge amount of life on them. Still a good price as you'd probably get one winter out of them, but if you could find a similarly priced set for a bit more it would be worth it.
