Do you remember the post about the broken trailer while recovering a none running TD5 90 bought by a friend of mine?
Anyway, the previous owner thought the issue of the none running was fuel pump. He replaced that and all the relays to no effect.
The ECU was sent off by my mate and came back with all layers corrupted. He had them rebuild him a new ECU but was advised to have wiring checked before fitting as the previous owner had had a couple of auto electricians look at it without any result.
Being unable to find anyone willing to look at it, the job fell to me. There was some wiring fuckery, but nothing that upset me and would worry the ECU so I plugged it in and.... Nothing.
Checked the ECU fuse and it was blown so replaced it. Relays click to life, but no fuel pump. Trace the wires back and find a break in the pump earth where it goes into the plug. Small repair later and the pump is running when the key is turned. Force prime it for a couple of minutes and turn it over. Fires right up and settles to a nice idle and no lights on the dash. My mate has a very cheap running Land Rover.

Excellent. As always, it is just a case of methodically working through the simple items, step by step.
... unfortunately, with it being a TD5, the cylinder head will probably go ping tomorrow.

I think someone has transplanted a later Disco engine, so hopefully not!
The farmer friend I work for had the head crack twice on his early TD5 and cause a runaway.

Diesel runaway is both fascinating and frightening!
Definitely potential for a little sideline business here.
