Based on a couple of threads here I’m going to take a look around with a view to potentially changing the 991.
Basic plan is I’m going to look at options to sell the Porsche and put circa £50k additional cash in. That should get me to around the 90k mark. I’m likely to keep the car for about 6 or 7 years and it is likely to see me through to retirement (I’m 52 today!). The car has to serve no specific purpose - I can really get whatever I want in terms of number of seats etc. Shouldn’t be a stupid place to put my money though. On the list:
992 (obviously). Maybe new
Vantage. I really like the new one, reviews are good. Plenty around in budget. I drove the last version and didn’t think much of it at all - felt generations out of date to me. New one has some very good write ups. Core mechanicals should be robust too.
Boxster gts. Might seem like a surprise inclusion but I think this could be my idea of perfection. I’ll grudgingly admit an ego issue will need to be dealt with in ‘stepping down’ from a 911.
That’s it so far. Any thoughts? Anything I should add on?

Happy Birthday!
No thoughts on those other than you really need to drive them all.
Is it worth putting an autotrader search in with the only criteria being a minimum price of, say, £80k and see if it throws up something you hadn't thought of?

To be honest I think the Boxster GTS is the pick of the bunch. The Boxster is now a bigger car than it used to be and you can get the roof down to enjoy the sound of the 4 litre flat 6. And it will cost less on all fronts.

Happy Birthday.
Without having driven any of them, I think I'd get a nice spec Boxster GTS 4.0 and try and collect from the factory.

Some good comments. Thoughts:
I don’t think I could live with an older Ferrari. Everyone I know who’s owned one has found them temperamental.
The F type doesn’t float my boat. I drove a v8 years ago and I found it a handful - the sort of car that required too much concentration too. Much of the time. Isn’t it also a place to lose spectacular money?
The gts does have big appeal.

Now that is a serious piece of kit and being a Honda it should go on forever.

Somewhere between £4-5k for the extended warranty! Yeah so probably go for the 718 GTS! That Lagonda looks nice though and definitely shouldn't depreciate, not sure it could ever be a daily though!

Happy birthday! Aston. Because it's an Aston.

Wow. Some great inspiration. I had not even thought about a McLaren. Somewhere in my mind I seem to recall stories about horrendous service? Could be wrong. I wonder if they’re a bit too ‘specialist’ for me. Worth a look though
The db11 is a good shout - almost a practical option.
I like the the Ferrari California suggestion. Never even driven a Ferrari so I should at least have a poke around.
I’ve also added the an Amg gt convertible and the Honda nsx.
I’ve never been a fan of the r8 and the short drive I had in one didn’t change that - it felt too wide to really enjoy on the roads around me.
The Vantage is probably top of the list right now. Probably for no better reason than, as Roadsterstu points out. it’s as Aston

Happy birthday, Garry. The Cayman GTS has an end of an era feel too it. Got to be tempting.

He had a 991 Turbo convertible before, and just says the McLaren feels many times more special - a proper supercar, whereas the Porker was more of a uber-fast sportscar. He's quite the petrolhead - his "station car" is a CL65 AMG - yes the mad V12 one. The DB11 is lovely but possibly a bit "older gent"? If you've never driven a Ferrari and have the opportunity to own one or a McLaren it will certainly be an experience and although it may not be as cheap to own or run than a Porsche, it will certainly look and feel more special when you look out at it on your driveway.
When pitted against the alternative of a new 718 GTS its definitely a head vs heart decision and the Porsche does look like a more sensible idea that is less likely to go wrong. There's a lot of choice in your price range so if you can go in with your eyes open and buy the best you can afford then it could be a great experience. You don't need to be like some YouTuber who buys the cheapest Ferrari just to see how big a repair bill it throws up.

McLaren would definitely be on my shortlist - certainly a 570GT. Depending on how you view steering feel and manual gearboxes, perhaps consider a new Lotus Evora GT410. Starts at about £82k list, doesn't need many options. I will be test-driving one sometime soon. Obviously I would agree with the suggestions for a 718 GTS. AMG GT would be on my shortlist too, as would the current Aston (and the F-Type with a V8).

That Ferrari 599 would also be VERY tempting if I was in your position.

For me the GTS is hugely desirable. But it's almost a bit too much the "default" option, a bit too safe. I'd be extremely tempted by the Vantage. It's less the obvious choice, even if it isn't perhaps as good overall, but it would be well worth a test drive.
