On my way to work I normally turn right onto the main road and then straight onto a 30mph road which turns into 40mph for a bit. I now can't turn right because there is a mains water and a sewer issue which has resulted in the whole road being dug up so I have to turn left onto a straight NSL road for about a mile which gets the engine up to temperature before I turn right for 2 miles of constant twists and turns before rejoining the 30mph road. The quiet roads are great and this morning at the apex of a corner I had the car balanced at that point where everything goes light just before I applied throttle and it hunkered down and blasted away. I get the same on the way home and it's a wonderful reminder of why we love driving. The lockdown has some benefits.

I must admit I've gone out of my way on the odd occasion I've taken the car out and it is great to have quiet roads. But fuck me there are a lot of people behaving as though the traffic laws are also under lockdown - why not keep 'self-entertainment' for where it's safe?

Excuse the Queefism but I even got a dab of oppo in the Volvo yesterday.

I also vary my route home. There's the motorway blast to "clear the cobwebs" (at 71mph) and a nice twisty route that gets the tyres working nicely.
There is also one point on my normal route where, like John mentions, you get that feeling of the car going light before it settles back in and is ready for the next bit. It's a crest before a dip. Just one point in the entire journey, between village 30 limits. It is all of a couple of seconds in a 10 mile journey that has no other opportunities but get it right and it feels ever so good.

I have a daily fly by at the office from a white Aventador. I can only assume it is the replacement for the white E63 preceded by the white C63 which have done the same thing over the past few years: trundle past the speed camera and then give it everything. I'd say at least 60 and more likely 70+ in a 30 limit. Sounds good though.

Excuse the Queefism but I even got a dab of oppo in the Volvo yesterday. Good effort! I've got to be honest, I love driving the Volvo like an arse. If I had an X5 or Range Rover and drove it flat out I'd just look like a knuckledragging buffoon. The XC90 on two wheels just confuses people and once they've worked out, yes that is a Volvo driven by a plonker, your long gone and can't see them giving you the coffee beans.

I like to take the Discovery by the scruff, they're a bit more into tilt action than the Volvo.

I used to love driving my Shogun flat out. I could even get it sideways in rwd mode, on a wet road and in 2nd gear. 99BHP didn't allow that sort of twattery in the dry. In fact it's something I've thought about for the last month or so since EVO have been taking a look at the thrill of driving - as they say it doesn;t have to be in a 700BHP mid-engined supercar. I got a lot of joy cruising around at 55mph in a noisy, rattly and bouncy 15 year old 4x4. With the dampers on the soft setting it was extremely bouncy on your typical Fife backroad

I used to enjoy ragging the 1.0 second gen Micra's,at Enterprise sweet engine and gearbox and could drive the doorhandles off it and still generally below the legal limit. The 2.0 Mondeo's were too quick too fast for a proper thrashing!

No opportunities for such joys in central London sadly.

A friend and I hired one to drive to Donnington from up here and thrashed the tits off it the whole way there and back. Later I worked at a firm that had 2 - in white, natch - as pool cars and they took a thrashing as well. These were all early versions - L and M reg. I also drove a 52 plate a couple of times and it was a disappointment, softer suspension, plusher interior and, possibly, a 1.2 engine.

There are a lot of deer on the roads around here at the moment. It has been reported on the news locally.

I got some sideways action in the 320 last night as I headed down into town to collect a takeaway pizza. It had been raining (finally!) earlier and I was passing under some trees round some bends. Due to some top notch Queef skills, or more likely BMW's finest chassis programmers, a small slide was enjoyed and collected up neatly. I'd like to say I was more circumspect coming home but a) I was now heading uphill and b) I'd only been doing 30 anyway as I was aware of the wet leaf danger. Most importantly the 9 sheets of plasterboard in the back of the BMW remained undamaged on the journey

They got an update around 2000 I think and the gearbox went all rubbery, soggy suspension and the 1.3 wasn't as sweet as the 1.0 Base original one didn't even have a rear wiper, made a fiesta popular look plush!
