So I've been watching a few of the full-race re-runs from the turbo-F1 era on You Tube but I saw most of them live so a dip into Amazon Prime shows me some great old motorsport shows. I was never a huge fan of '60s F1 racing but it is great to see the road cars that I loved as a kid racing in GT racing and the '50s stuff is epic watching, not just for the cars but the aura and scenery. - Fangio missing a plane from Silverstone to the Italian GP so driving it, arriving at 2pm and starting the race!
- Colour footage of any road race - epic backdrops as the races were just on public roads.
- Realising that the fans, racers, crew were only a decade out from a huge devastating war.
- Seeing a DS19 win the Monte Carlo rally in 1959, which started in various cities across Europe.
Motor racing today is alas a pile of shite by comparison. Not technologically but the people, personalities and reasoning behind the racing. These were people that went racing for fun, to show off their engineering skills, to sell a few bits and basically spend money and live life that they might not have had if they had been killed in the war. The sometime-F1 racers used to ship a race car out to Australia and then sell it at the end of the meeting to fund the entire trip. Lots of deaths, though.

The sheer bravery of those drivers astounds me. So little safety gear but so much skill and dedication.

If I invented a time machine one of my destinations would be to watch the Targa Florio. Seeing Porsche 908's, RSRs, Ferrari 512's and an abundance of Alfas all giving it the beans on public roads would have been awesome.

I know I have gone on about this before but the GPL sim from the 90's has a lot of the great cars and it feels odd, not real by any means but due to the way the graphics and physcs work together, it is possible to notice the back end sliding in a fast corner/bend. Still a very active following and a new build (From the demo) that covers modern OS and graphics. It's also free.

That GP Legends sim was the hardest driving game I’ve ever played and remains so.
And I’m no slouch at racing games!

No it's taking the original gpl demo and rewriting it for modern operating systems.
Several generations of F1 and sports cars with correct for period tracks.
