As I wasn't interested in a strange gap in my MoT history the Gorilla was MoT'd today. Unsurprisingly it passed, given that according to my records I have spent £2k more in servicing it over 4 years than I have in petrol (no mean feat!)
Currently running at £1.22 per mile excluding depreciation. That's the trouble with data: as shown by the Coronavirus daily updates and subsequent social media hand-wringing it tells you shit you could do without knowing.

There's a simple solution. Use it more!!
I assume it would be difficult to work out depreciation, as you won't know how much it's worth until you try to sell it?
edit: I've had mine 2 years in 2 weeks time. If I exclude depreciation from mine, but include tax, servicing and tyres (inc the 4 x winters I had to get due to a puncture) it has cost 26.7p a mile. That will increase now the service pack has run out, but I've also made profit on the business mileage claims as that's averaged 21p/mile vs 18.5p/mile actual plus the tax back, so that drops it to 22.4p.
Adding in depreciation pushes that up to around 80p a mile.
So data can be used to make you feel better, it sounds so much more palatable than £38k in 2 years.

There's a simple solution. Use it more!! If there's one thing I might take as a positive from this Covid-19 stuff it's that W2.1 may have no choice other than using the Gorilla to make the family summer visitations. I've already start doing routes.....

Is the Gorilla de-limited or do Alpina stick with that?
Martin, is the £38k the cost of fuel, tyres, etc or the depreciation?

No limiters on Alpinas. The Gorilla's listed top speed is 303kph; I've seen 275 on the Autobahn.

We need John to find out what he can get his car up to! (Not in Scotland....!)
The theoretical max is 195mph, so 314kph.

Those maxes (?) are quite disappointing given the power. I believe that a de-limited E39 M5 with a puny 400BHP is good for 300km/h. I suspect that would take a fairly long run though.
Martin, that figure is pretty good including depreciation.

Martin, that figure is pretty good including depreciation. The latest Alpina B5 & B7 both crack the 200mph mark (205mph) The complementary 50k mile service pack has helped with the running costs, something else they dropped with the facelift

She pointed out that this requires France to ease its current restrictions on who they are letting cross the Channel into France.

They don’t seem to impose many restrictions on who crosses from France to England... Got a phone call from Nissan today to say the Cumquat is due its first service and they are reopening for bookings from 18th May.

Interesting. I should check with Park Lane whether I could bring the wheel change forward from 29 June...

Amazing, put that man in a government role, hang on he's just escaped servitude so perhaps he's done his time at mill.

I've got to take the Micra in for an airbag recall but got the letter after lockdown started. Haven't heard that the dealership is open though.

My MOT is due in 2 weeks. I'm hanging on to see if lockdown has been lifted and if I need to bother finding an open station to get it done. I have no fear of it failing, seeing as it has brand new brakes and bulbs on it and there are no worrying noises.

My E46 failed on that a couple of times, they seem to be crap.

It's a bit crap, but I don't rely on it too much being an automatic. I've been meaning to get under it for a while and have a tinker, see if there's any adjustment.

You might want to check the backing plates, they rot but I think they also brace the cable so you can't cut them off as you do with the front dust shields

I had the rears off recently to fit new discs and pads, and everything seemed to move ok. Which is unusual for small internal drum setups. I was shocked at how easy it was to do.

Mine snapped one of the cables at some point. I'm sure I also had to replace both rear and one front spring as well. Otherwise it was pretty decent (apart from being an ES in white with a pensioner grey interior ).
