It doesn't look like a 10 year old car or a 10 year old design. Sometimes VW just hit the nail on the head - I regularly see a Corrado VR6 and still think it is a gorgeous looking car.

That looks very fresh for a 10 year old car.

That rare thing - a keeper!
I test-drove a Scirocco when they first came out. Liked it, albeit not enough to buy one. Went for the 135i coupe instead.

It is one of few moderns that I would actively look for should I be in the market, it just 'looks the part' for me.

Good news! I tend to find the Sirocco, sadly, falls into the hands of the wrong sort all too often and most are driven by nobheads. You know the kind - the ones who call it a 'Rocco. This one is clearly the exception. (You don't call it your 'Rocco, do you?!)

There was a brief period when a diesel version just snuck into the price/CO2 bracket that would have allowed it to be a company car choice but it fell somewhat short on the practicality side due to the amount of kit I used to carry for my job back then and not quite being big enough to be the only car in a household with 2 young kids! The breadvan style rear does make it more practical than some coupes though.
I agree it's a great design. I think VW could have done a bit better in differentiating the interior from the regular Golf but then the same criticism could be leveled at most coupes/cabrios from most other mainstream brands. The triangular interior armrests look a bit different at least and are an interesting design point.

Probably need to try an R to compare to the 135 which of course wasn't available when they first came out. It had been introduced (just) when I bought mine but it was an extra £100 a month and there are times when I can go a fortnight without leaving the 30mph zone, so in the end I decided I couldn't justify it - plus it was so new there was no chance of a test drive and I didn't like the extra body addenda they added.

Ha ha - no - I know what you mean, but they all seem to have moved on now - the Scirocco forum was full of that type but it's all but dead now - I assume most to the members have moved on to other cars - hopefully to leave the car in peace to quietly become a modern classic like the Corado and Alfa GTV - both of which I would add to the 'stable' if I had room.

not quite being big enough to be the only car in a household with 2 young kids! My kids would have thought they were in heaven if they'd had the space of the Scirocco - our family car was a GTV when they were young!

That looks very fresh for a 10 year old car. It has an easier life since we had the 'Maxi' - when we had the previous Cooper the Scirocco did all the long journeys as the Mini simply didn't have the performance I like to have on a long drive - with it being a Cooper S, the Maxi has a lot more get up and go (not quite up to the Scirocco, but acceptable) and it's also a bit more refined with a much nicer and higher quality interior than the VW, so duties get a lot more shared now.

I managed to squeeze into the back of a GTV once but had to get helped out (not due to old age and fat, this was at the dealer launch in 1996!).
