I can understand why but at the same time it stinks for the fans.

The money spinners and backers/sponsors will be getting in a right tizzy.

IndyCar's season opener just faced a similar situation to F1. The temporary street course in Florida was all ready to go; barriers up, grandstands installed etc only for the race to be cancelled just before practice started today. Even Long Beach in April, another street course has been cancelled. They had already done a lot of the construction.
I hope we get racing ASAP!

I was thinking about racing, this being the weekend that the Bahrain GP would be happening. Motor racing depends on medical professionals being on standby in case of an injury. And obviously, the worlds medical staff are preopuped by something rather more important right now.
Still, various championships are hosting virtual races which include the real drivers! It will be interesting, Esports was growing anyway, viewer interest and engagement will be interesting.

Well we've got nothing on until Azerbaijan in June now, and even that may be in doubt.

I can see it going on longer than that...... how many key motorsport suppliers will survive the current crisis?
How many fans will risk travelling overseas in the immediate aftermath - or be able to afford to travel, even presuming that there are hotels for them to stay in?

Frankly I can see the entire season getting cancelled. This won't be over any time soon.

Apparently there are virtual F1 events going on but I have no idea how to access them. I know it is a minor thing under the circumstances but This is something that is properly winding me up.

I have been to that page but it is showing the normal online racing series. They were talking about a virtual F1 series with no pints awarded which suggests that F1 races as we know them on line. No points awarded does suggest this. To me anyway.

So, the virtual series is not the F1 I know, just gamers so of no interest whatsoever. Rubbish.

^ Yup. I'm afraid that Life and The World is rubbish at the moment especially for the depressed, autistic etc. Somehow we have to get through or get out.
Life won't be the same again ever, for some of us who live through it but won't live long enough afterwards to see a significant recovery

There is a virtual Bahrain GP live on Sky Sports F1 tonight, 8 pm. Clutching at straws, but there is no other option!
I agree with Chris, I worry about motor racing and whether it survives. The bigger series like F1 and Moto GP can probably survive, but the smaller sportscar championships are far from certain. Things like SRO GT (globally), European GT Open and British GT are dependent on sponsorship of gentlemen drivers to keep going, with very limited viewing bases.

^ We could end up with cheap domestic series, but I seriously wonder how many companies that make racing parts will survive. Unless they are soon diverted to make ventilators it will be extremely difficult for most of them to keep going. If we all self-isolate for 12 weeks or longer, many of the skills will need re-honing once industry does try to re-start.
As for apprenticeships, I dread to think

I see more associative events. There have long been support races for the F1 weekends and this might mean more events per weekend. I wonder if CH4 will get any access to the virtual events. Unlikely.

Yep, give me the real thing anyday. I thought maybe, just maybe, it might be a substitute for the real thing. How wrong I was. In fairness, the sim racing that Verstappen and Lando Norris compete in is of much higher standard.

The technical problems they had are hardly unknown and they can be understood. The impression I had from the ads was of the regular drivers with a proper race environment but it was just for fun and I get it. Some harmless fun. Llando not even managing to start and a certain former F1 driver all over the place made me a bit happier with my expectations when I try later this week. Perhaps I should just accept it for what it really is and stop hoping for something it will never be.

We'll have grand kids asking us if we can tell them what it was like to live through the Covid-19 lockdown - bloody boring without sport that's all I can say!

What a difference a few weeks makes...
Anyone care to hazard a guess as to when - or if - we'll get any racing in 2020?
Belgium currently has a ban on mass gatherings until 31 August, which is the Monday after Spa.
But I think we might see a race or two behind closed doors in August. Silverstone is an obvious venue because seven of the teams have bases in the UK.

I expect they will be non championship events if ALL the teams cannot compete, Ferrari for a start would be absent. What is the real point then? Demo races? The only upside I can see is that sponsors will at least get SOME coverage/exposure this year or else the whole season's costs will be for nothing.

I think it has to now be a possibility that we won't have a 2020 season, and that may apply to many other sports too.
The F1 teams have apparently said that they will need something like 60 to 90 days to get ready for the first race of the season. As most teams are based in the UK and will be on lockdown until at least the second week in May, at which point there will still be huge restrictions on international travel, I think is quite likely that there won't be any racing this year, sadly.
