Well the telephone is back on. Just in time for Storm Dennis. We're supposed to be taking a horse up to Lancashire for a dressage competition on Saturday. It might well get cancelled.

I didn't really have any snow related issues at home but getting there was slightly different. It started snowing heavy wet flakes just after I left work and on the way down the road they gradually stuck to the front of the car including the headlights! So after a while I was driving into heavy snow which is a weird effect anyway, barely able to see the lights of the car in front due to the snow smearing on the upstroke of the wipers and additionally not getting much benefit from the lights as the only clear bit on them was immediately ahead of the bulb so there was no spread to the beam. Of course there was nowhere to pull over safely either! When I got onto the side road near the house and put the full beam on it made no difference because there was a couple of inches of hard packed snow on that part of the lens. I've never had that before! What you want is right here:

I'm back home. Apparently the B6278 from Middleton to Stanhope is shut. I must have missed the sign. The B6278 from Stanhope wasn't any better (wind was worse, if anything) and that is still officially open. Go figure.

Good spin. I presume the laws of physics took over when the wind met the side of the LR?

Indeed it did. There was no chance of catching that.

We've been lucky on the Surrey-Hampshire borders. The wind was a bit horrendous on Sunday but there were only a few fences down, not as many as in the storm from a few weeks back. Plenty of miscellaneous debris on the roads - rubbish, blown-over bins, twigs and branches etc. However the sun was out today and according to the outside temperature gauge on the car, although there was a bit of a frost this morning it reached 10 degrees C this afternoon.
I hate high winds; not looking forward to storm Dennis this coming week-end, and I hope the snow stays away

Apparently, we are getting hammered with snow in the early hours of tomorrow from about 5am to 10am.
Ive got my dad staying and have to take him to Middlesbrough for 1.30. Hopefully the mayhem will have died down a bit.

On the West Lancashire Plain it is raining and a little blowy. So normal then.

Managed to get to and back from the hostibule without getting soaked which I failed to do last time and been told whatever it is, it ain't cancer which is nice seeing as I have been waiting since October for tests and results. Good day then. Dennis is apparently going to be worse round here than Ciara was so batten down the hatches then......

Played golf this morning and then took dog for long walk. Got back as storm was starting and have now battened down the hatches and settled in with a few Ghost Ship beers.

I abandoned my plans for the day and just nipped into the local town this morning instead, returning before the rain started but with strong winds already blowing. It's a bit horrendous to say the least but the gusts don't seem to be quite as bad as last weekend.... not heard such odd noises from the roof today as I did last weekend.
Trouble this time is that the ground is sodden, so tree roots, fence posts etc will not be able to put up as much resistance as they did 7 days ago. Fingers crossed we all survive unscathed

A few panels down this morning, not overly surprised with a couple as they were on their last legs, however pissed off that a couple of relatively new ones have gone.
The post was anchored to the ground with a bang in Met Post and it has just sheared off at the base, that will be fun getting that out!
As a temporary measure I'll get some roll out bamboo type screening today, put that up in the gap and worry about re fencing proper at a later date.

One of our guttering downpipes is swinging in the breeze this morning. I don't have a bleedin' ladder to get up there to fix it back on.

Our paddock is flooded but we’ve had no damage. Most of the roads are closed us which is a bit of a pain.

I wonder what the reservoir levels are like.... I hope we don't get cries of "drought" and water shortage this summer. I was woken about 1am by the sound of rain beating on the bedroom window and I don't think it's stopped since. Looking at the rain radar map, there's no end in sight.....

Our local reservoir has been overflowing the sluice for weeks.

It almost stopped raining here an hour ago - for long enough for me to go outside and give the Captur and Kuga a quick wash to get rid of the worst of the dirt

Damned wet here. Standing water in many of the fields and more water backing up as the flood defences in Shrewsbury have gone up to their highest level. Our pond overflowed last night as the outlet just could not cope with the volume of water coming down the drainage ditch that flows into it - it is usually about 3 feet lower than the picture. It's overflowed the path - I hope it does not wash it away!

Fixed me drainpipe. I now have a pile of clematis on my drive that is bigger than the car! Ironically, we were having someone round this week to cut it back, but at least that means we have someone to take the woody Q7 away tomorrow.

I went into the attic and around the outside of the house at 10:30 last night because it sounded like there must be a hole in the roof! No sign of anything but I did discover our bins had made a bid for freedom and were in the field across the road, complete with the chain and one of the anchor posts that kept them in place

It was a bit of a non-event in Newcastle. It rained enough to top up the nearby fields but no damage.
