This is just turning into another automotive villainy thread methinks. Literally just witnessed another one that winds me up when it shouldn't. People who don't bother getting dressed just because they're only popping out. Just seen a woman in pyjamas, dressing gown and slippers get of the car and drop baby off at what I can only assume was her mother's because she was outside dressed the same. At midday. That reminded me that last night when I went to Asda for some milk and other provisions I passed a woman in PJ's dressing gown and slippers filling her car up with petrol/diesel. Why?

That is definitely more prevalent nowadays with more and more cars having automatic gearboxes and the drivers being too bloody lazy to knock it into park. Since owning an auto, I've always made sure to either drop into neutral or park when sat at lights for any amount of time. I don't fancy having to refurbish the torque converter after it sits there spinning hot fluid against a locked drivetrain. I've seen conflicting advice on this. Some say constantly shifting the automatic gearbox does more harm than good, and it's better to just leave it in Drive when stopped for a short periods of time. I don't know what to believe TBH. Prod the Merc brake pedal and it will auto hold at lights (with the brake lights blazing away....)

How about manufacturer 'crimes' then? Was down in Portishead Thursday to Saturday and rented the cheapest thing available from Bristol airport which was supposed to be an Aygo. Enterprise/Alamo didn't have any of them left when got there, so upgraded me to a Fiesta ST(line). '68 plate 1-litre job which was utterly gutless.
Ford aren't the only, or even original, perpetrators of what is essentially a big con; if a car isn't a performance model, don't try to dress it up as one.

You sure it was the 1.0? Even the entry level 100hp one felt more than nippy to me
It was probably the 1.1 non turbo I imagine

No need to be that blatant. I've been in my night clothes most the evening since getting in from the gym but needing some more milk I at least had the dignity to pull on a pair of jeans and a jacket over them before running down to the corner shop.

I checked the DVLA website and it gives the engine capacity as 998cc. Compared to my car, the interior was actually a pleasant place ot be and I was quite impressed with the satnav and screen; biggest gripe is having to look at the centre of the car to do much of anything really, something many have mentioned about modern cars in recent times.
If it had shown a bit more 'get upo and go' it would have been a perfectly reasonable, pleasant enough place to sit for the two days I needed it.

Maybe there was something wrong with the Fiesta? I've just got back after having mine serviced and MoT'd. The loan car was a current Fiesta Zetec ST-Line ecoboost 100 auto, and it certainly pulled away from rest noticeably quickly - felt a lot faster than mine initially. However the fuel consumption was pretty dire.....

I guess as I get older I just get more chilled - just about every 'crime' mentioned here just washes over me these days - I'm much more tolerant of lane hoggers now and just sit behind them at a reasonable distance until they move over and I really don't care (and never have) if people hold their car on the foot brake of if they pull the handbrake up on the ratchet. In fact I find having a stupid electronic handbrake more annoying!

Driving home at 43mph on a clear and well-sighted main road in rush-hour traffic. Sadly nowadays hardly anyone overtakes and you inevitably end up at position 16 in the queue wishing they'd get a move on. Bloody 45ers. They grow in number by the day. They seem incapable of proceeding at more that 45mph in NSL sections, yet happily carry on at 40 in a 30. Dawdlers. Tailgating fuckers in a 30. I'm doing 32 (indicated, I usually add a little leeway, to be a more accurate 30) yet still I am mercilessly tailgated. Just overtake. I'm not stopping you. But don't try and make me go faster. Funnily enough, when you get to a NSL, they seem to bdcome 45ers and disappear in the rear view mirror. Until the next 30...

Disabled badge holders who park up and then wait in a disabled parking spot whilst their non disabled passengers get out to do the shopping.

I think if they are shopping for the disabled person, that's permitted.

Don't get me wrong, they are allowed to park there however they don't need to, it would be better if they parked in a normal space, thus leaving the disabled spot free for someone disabled who may be doing their own shopping, just think it's lazy and thoughtless.

I see what you mean. Those moving from car to shop are not disabled.

Thoughtlessness rather than intent possibly.

We went to Tesco last night (it was quiet and Mrs Tim reports it was almost fully stocked apart from bogroll and pasta!) and as I waited in the car I could see that although people might be practising social distancing on foot they're certainly not doing it with their cars. The need to almost park on top of each other in the spaces closest to the entrance is as strong as ever

Loo roll is one of the items Hasda didn't have. Pasta they did have some of.

Not a problem I did manage to get some the previous week after hunting for 3 weeks. I also have a stash of newspaper just in case. I do hope its got the streak resistant ink, skid marks I can do without. OK, NEW skid marks I can do without.

Here is a minor motoring crime I commmited: 57mph through one of the gantries with cameras on the M20 a few weeks back. I recall the 50mph signs (for no reason - the one after was NSL again) and braking more than anyone else around me bothered to do, but got the NIP a little while back.
Only trouble is, you can't book onto a course currently for obvious reasons - I contacted the local supplier and they said they are trying to sort out online courses. Meanwhile the offer has been withdrawn from Kent Police, so I may have to take the points. I can't be the only one in this position, there will be loads of others from before the crisis, and from the way people still driving seem to be approaching it, many more during as well...

Perhaps a little polite correspondence will make them reconsider, they must know the situation after all.

This may be a uniquely American trait, but driving in the outside lane and then darting across several lanes to make your exit. I’ve seen it happen across 4 lanes at one stage.
Also people doing half the posted limit of 45 in the industrial estate I work in, at 6:55am when the road is empty in front of them and everyone behind them is trying to get to work at 7. Particularly frustrating on a road that’s wide enough to turn a truck but has double lines in the middle so no overtaking.

I was let off my speeding ticket by Kent Police - yay! Coronavirus bonus. I wonder how many other people that would normally do a course, will be let off - or if they look at circumstances (it was 57 on a motorway - not in roadworks).

Bloody hell, that's pretty much unheard of. Bit of a result! But 57 in a 50 is hardly a danger to anyone and should have been within the long used and reasonable 10% +2mph which present day Policing prefers to ignore. Glad you got the right and just result James.
