We're ignoring things of significance here - the big two for me being tailgating a learner and using a disabled space to which you are not entitled. But I digress.
I find myself irrationally irritated by those who just yank on the handbrake without holding in the button - generating that horrible ratcheting noise. I know this is of no real consequence (other than minor lack of mechanical sympathy), but there you go.
And you?

1. Those that sit at traffic lights with their foot on the brake, usually when the road is perfectly flat. It's always been a particular irritation at this time of year and has become much worse since the advent of lights bright enough for Goldfinger to use on 007!
2. The ever increasing number of tossers who park on the wrong side of the road but leave their lights on.
3. Idiots who park at Tesco and leave the engine running for their passenger while they nip into the shop for 20 minutes.
I could go on......

The people I follow every morning who do well below the speed limit in the outside lane and then when I pull to the inside they suddenly waken up and start speeding but they steadfastly refuse to move to the inside.

The ever increasing number of tossers who park on the wrong side of the road but leave their lights on. As above, plus 3. "middle lane" hogs - or worse. I've used the M25 a few times over the past few weeks and there are those who sit in lane 3 of 4 or lane 4 of 5 with nothing inside them or ahead of them, but they refuse to move left. 4. "smart motorway" variable speed limits being inappropriately displayed. M3 or M25, can't remember which but last week, near empty motorway and speed suddenly goes to 50mph due to "congestion ahead", then 40mph, then back to 70. The congestion was caused purely by a majority of vehicles jamming on brakes to comply with the reduced limits (light traffic) and almost causing a few rear-enders 5. The general lowering of speed limits for "no good reason". In the past few weeks I have re-used some roads that I have not driven down for maybe 30 years or more, and plenty have gone from NSL to 50 or 40. Why ?? 6. People not ready to move off when red traffic lights go green. The number of people who seem surprised and delay moving off for several seconds whilst they engage gear etc etc 7. The general "police by camera" rather than by "real" people (wardens, police officers or whatever). 8. Smart motorways in general - there is nothing smart about removing the key safety feature of a hard shoulder 9. Th general drop in driving standards, poor lane discipline, people who think that using the indicators gives then an automatic right to change lanes or pull out etc etc I'll leave it at that for now !

People who show no courtesy to fellow road users. We all pay for the privilege in one way or another but frankly they feel more entitled. For example, slow town traffic with people trying to join from side roads. I slow to make a space and the amount of times I get loud and repeated horn hoots that I slow them down for five seconds grates big time. Also, people trying to get through traffic to get IN to side roads. Again I slow to make a gap but you would think I was parking in the middle of the road such are the protests. I believe we are ALL entitled to get from A to B with a bit of consideration, those people complaining want to complete their journey and need the a break so why can the not do the same for others?

People who just switch on their foglights when a headligbt bulb goes pop on their car and then drive past Halfords every night on their way home from work. The thought of dropping in there for a new bulb doesn't even glimmer in the back of their idiot brain.

Dawdlers at petrol stations who seem to spend several minutes trying to remember what to do once they get back in their car after paying.

Dawdlers at petrol stations who seem to spend several minutes trying to remember what to do once they get back in their car after paying. OK another.. People who pull up at a pump, buy a few quid's worth of fuel but leave the car at the pump whilst they do the week's grocery shop in the petrol station building, blocking the pump for 20 to 30 minutes or more

And you? My driving instructor taught me to press the handbrake button in, along with always walking round the back of the car when changing sides. All habits I still do today.

1. Those that sit at traffic lights with their foot on the brake, usually when the road is perfectly flat. It's always been a particular irritation at this time of year and has become much worse since the advent of lights bright enough for Goldfinger to use on 007! That is definitely more prevalent nowadays with more and more cars having automatic gearboxes and the drivers being too bloody lazy to knock it into park. Since owning an auto, I've always made sure to either drop into neutral or park when sat at lights for any amount of time. I don't fancy having to refurbish the torque converter after it sits there spinning hot fluid against a locked drivetrain.
Other than that, lots of things annoy me. Smart motorways in general are such a cretinous idea and a total waste of time and resources. They simply don't work, for the simple reason that your average road user is a fucking moron who doesn't look further than the boundaries of their own car. Create smart drivers, then we can talk about smart motorways.
Middle lane hoggers. I've spent most of today blatting down either the M6, M69, M1 and A50 collecting bodywork in the works van and the amount of people just sitting in the middle lane at 55 is simply insane. Had I not been in a liveried van, I would have just undertaken each and every single one of them, but every time I had to move across 2 or more lanes (In a van limited to 74 indicated mph). Almost all of them 50+ and female.
People who don't move away from the queue at traffic lights. When you are sat at a red light, what is the next phase of that light? Red/amber, then green. It should not come as a surprise that the lights have changed. It should not be a rush to engage the correct gear. You know it's coming, it's not my fault you are on the phone. Many a day I sit 10-15 cars back at the lights on the way home and I'm in gear ready to move before the person 3rd/4th in the queue has even realised what day it is, only for the lights to change back to red just as I'm reaching them. See my first point - they've probably got an auto and are probably still in drive, sat on the brakes - no excuse not to move swiftly.

I keep my foot on the brake pedal. The driver in front is doing it so I'm just passing it on. It's just one of those things now, same as auto high beams that only dip after they've seen you coming. You just have to get with it coz it ain't going away any time soon.

Another one that does get on my tits is people who tailgate learner drivers, seemingly forgetting that they were one of those once. Just seen a nob in a Jag doing it that reminded me.

I certainly don't put my car in neutral at every traffic light! Only for longer lights or if stuck in traffic for a while.
Plenty of irritations listed already but others:
- not using indicators; - not thanking people; - cycling without lights and in dark clothing; - cycling two abreast chatting; - not maintaining a steady speed on a free-flowing motorway; - uber drivers who stop exactly where their fare is instead of where it is safe to stop; - people who eat/drink/apply make-up etc while driving.
I could go on.

Driving home at 43mph on a clear and well-sighted main road in rush-hour traffic. Sadly nowadays hardly anyone overtakes and you inevitably end up at position 16 in the queue wishing they'd get a move on.

Mrs P tells me off for not thanking other drivers, but I only do it in one particular scenario. It's when someone has stopped because there's a car parked on their side of the road and there's not enough room for us both to pass. My argument is that it's their duty to stop because I have right of way and I shouldn't need to thank them for it.
They do get a one fingered wave if they don't stop, though!

Sadly nowadays hardly anyone overtakes and you inevitably end up at position 16 in the queue wishing they'd get a move on. More annoying is when you're the person just behind the dawdler and you get to a roundabout with a nice long overtake friendly straight to follow only for the slow car to sneak onto the roundabout just as a line of cars is coming from the right blocking you off! Also annoying is when they do 40 in a 60 but when you get to a village you slow down to the required 30 and they just sail off into the distance without adjusting their speed. Don't get me started on Smart motorways! Worth watching the Panorama program from Monday if you've not already, it's made me sit down with our SHEQ manager and review our driving at work risk assessments and she's now going to deliver some additional training on them to our staff that drive for work. That they've implemented them without getting the technology designed to offer protection to the motorists using them is criminal in itself and I'm glad the government are pausing the roll out of them whilst they investigate, however that means the current upgrade projects such as those on the M23 and M27 will now take even longer to complete. I was on the M25 the other week between the A24 and A3 junctions at about midday. It was nice and clear with no congestion at all when suddenly the speed limit changed from 70 to 50 due to their favourite hazard 'report of obstruction'. I braked to slow down almost causing cars behind to have an accident but several other drivers didn't and were promptly flashed by the speed cameras and will now face a summons for doing 70+ in a 50 and yet two gantrys ahead the limit returned to NSL! So several cars almost had a collision and many other drivers will now be prosecuted for speeding and not one of us ever did see that obstruction.

But that is assuming it had just changed. It may have been reduced to 50 more than a minute before but it was as we came round the corner approaching Cobham services.

Not really a motoring crime, but why does the current Discovery have the world's smallest brake lights, considering it is the size and shape of a tower block?
The rear lights themselves are plenty big enough, but the lit area under braking is roughly the size of a matchbox.

Some say constantly shifting the automatic gearbox does more harm than good, and it's better to just leave it in Drive when stopped for a short periods of time. I don't know what to believe TBH.

The one that pisses me off greatly is people who speed up to cut you off AFTER you've indicated to pull out and change lanes with plenty of time and space.
It's a purely selfish and egoistic gesture, basically saying "No, I'm not letting you go in front of me, ever. I must be in front of everybody."

People who can't maintain a steady or consistent speed on motorways or dual carriageways. I'd like to think that most modern cars have cruise control - are people incapable of using it or just scared? I encountered a Fiesta ST on the A483 towards Shrewsbury yesterday. I had my cruise set at 80 and was happily bimbling along in the inside lane when I happened across the aformentioned arsewit sat in the outside lane, overtaking nobody. I pulled out, expecting them to move over and they sat there, so I pulled back and undertook them, all without even touching the cruise control. 10 seconds later, they sail past me, still in the outside lane and then slow down, only this time with another car behind them, who also has to undertake them, along with me. Rinse and repeat for many miles.

We were on the M90 late on Saturday afternoon when the weather got a bit wet and wild. There were two lots of flashing blue lights coming up behind so I pulled to the inside and gave up trying to get past the Nissan XTrail who was doggedly maintaining station in the outside lane. I gave him space to pull in but no. A 3 Series Touring and a 5 Series Touring with sirens blaring came up behind him and he still sat there. I could hear the normal horn of the 3 Series also being used above the sound of the sirens and eventually the moron pulled over. The 5 Series pulled alongside him for a second or two before blasting into the distance. We then did the same. About 3 or 4 miles later the XTrail sailed past at about 80 in attrocious conditions and then slowed down again but stuck to the outside lane. I just cruised past on the inside, treating him as a slow moving queue of traffic.
I hope the Police have their experience on camera and take him off the road.

This is just turning into another automotive villainy thread methinks.
Literally just witnessed another one that winds me up when it shouldn't. People who don't bother getting dressed just because they're only popping out. Just seen a woman in pyjamas, dressing gown and slippers get of the car and drop baby off at what I can only assume was her mother's because she was outside dressed the same. At midday.
