Aren't Merc in the vanguard of producing smaller cars with features from further up the range? I get the impression that, if your pockets are deep enough, you could spec an A Class with all sorts of goodies.
I'm not sure how well that applies to the actual quality of the fittings though?

It's not the goodies so much as the perceived quality. The point about my 2001 A3 is that at the time, the general sense of solidity and the quality of the fixtures and fittings wasn't appreciably less than a contemporary A8.

Looks cheap next to the new RS6. But that is up against the B5 - an altogether different price bracket!

Looks cheap next to the new RS6. But that is up against the B5 - an altogether different price bracket! The rs6 is still ridiculously expensive . You can buy delivery mileage amg e63s estate for 70k ,which is where my money would go if I wanted to make the dog sick .

My spec came to £86,520.
£109,750 for a B5 Estate.
