Arrived at my in-laws for Christmas to discover that my father-in-law had chopped his 2013 Qashqai in for a run-out old shape Ford Kuga in a rather smart shade of metallic grey. It's a manual 180bhp 1.6 petrol but I have no idea what trim level it is (they are different in Italy anyway). It has full sat nav but cloth seats.
He's well aware that a new model of Kuga had already been launched and he had been seriously tempted by a SEAT Ateca (which had been my recommendation) but the SEAT was apparently pricey and the dealer made a low offer for his Qashqai. By contrast he managed to beat his local Ford stealer down to EUR13k plus his Qashqai, which seemed a good deal for a car that originally listed at EUR28k. Seems pleased with it - says it's much more comfortable and nicer to drive that his Qashqai.

My sister in law has the ST version in 2 litre diesel and loves it. It has every conceivable extra including heated windscreen, heated steering wheel, panoramic roof, heated front and rear seats and much much more. Bought it at 6 mths old for £23K

Totally unrelated question Racing - did you get any hassle from the Police driving through France with your GB number plates? I have a client who is just back from a trip to France and he got stopped 3 times, on each occasion nit picking about spare bulbs, hi-viz vests, checking insurance and on one occasion being asked if he had an international driving licence. He does the trip every year and he felt an increased hostility: reckons he might fly next time if this is going to be the new norm.

One of my mates has had a 2010 2 litre diesel auto Kuga for a year and 10k miles and thinks its fantastic. It certainly drives well for something tall and heavy and feels barely run in. If I was in the market for a mid size SUV I'd certainly be tempted, the Ford garage in Cupar always have a large selection of pre-owned ones and keep leaving a late model ST Line X in Magnetic Grey parked closest to the road.

Mind you, we were only in France for maybe 15 hrs max for the whole two week trip. On the way down, we didn't stop in France this time, instead overnighting in Baden-Baden and then Milan, and it took less than six hours from Calais to the German border near Strasbourg. On the way back, it took us around 9 hours to get from the Mont Blanc tunnel to the Eurotunnel.
That said, the German, Swiss and Italian police left us alone too. Normally we get stopped at least twice by the Carabinieri to check our papers, but that didn't happen this time. Literally the only officials we spoke to were the passport controls at the Eurotunnel and at the Swiss border in Basel, all of whom were pleasant and efficient.

We have a handful of Kugas at work and gaving only ridden in one (not yet driven) they seem perfectly good. Very comfy from the passenger seat and feel taught yet with a good ride.

^ Ah, but do yours have leather seats? They can cause a bit of sliding around during "enthusiastic" cornering ;-) The 180 certainly can go if you flex your right foot........

My Brother has an 18 plate Kuga of some description. I know it's a diesel auto and it has a few toys, but other than that it is completely devoid of anything rememberable, bar that it is a nice shade of blue.

As I say, my recommendation had been the Seat Ateca and he did go and test-drive one. He really liked it inside and out, and to drive, but it was just way too pricey compared to the deal offered on the Kuga.

Nice choice - two years on my daughter is very pleased with her Kuga even though it appears to me to be more of a mobile dustbin!

Dull styling and dark, hard plastics inside. I find it depressing.
