Closing date (for sealed bids) set for Thursday 5 or 6 people interested. Fingers crossed for a good offer. My wife has accepted the possibility of a Caterham and has rented me one for a day of my choosing - think i'll wait for Spring. Sounds like a win-win situation. Damn right it is! Good luck with the bidding.

Just make sure there is enough parking / garage space and spare cash for your fun car as well as the car your daughter will inevitable need once she can drive. Parking for 4 cars in front of the garage and then the large double garage itself.

...but then I remember that, quite apart from the commuting, it would involve a divorce. My wife would countenance Richmond or possibly Twickenham, but apparently the provinces are completely out of the question.

Once again I find myself wondering why I have to live in central London... I can understand some London prices but others are ridiculous. My sister-in-law moved from Mottingham (which is a shithole) to Kent a few years ago and sold their very normal detached 4 bed on a busy urban road for over a million. I still understand can't why anyone would pay that kind of money to live there when a mere ten minutes more on the train buys you more for less in a nicer area.

I had to google Mottingham - had genuinely never heard of it, even though I lived in south-east London for several years!

It’s very much the land time forgot and is as horrible as the name itself. It’s near Chiselhurst which probably explains the prices but their house was one street over from an area that looked like it was enduring a riot. Their house was actually burgled before they moved in while they had work done.

House sold for about a decent Caterham's worth more than I anticipated! Wife now talking about a new kitchen and bathrooms! The negotiations commence but we need to get a moving date now.

Excellent news indeed - just very fortunate to still be around to enjoy it! It's been something of a whirlwind really, hasn't it? Time to relax for a day or two before getting back into the fray.

Yes, it feels slightly surreal but my wife is seriously excited about it (as are the Mother in Law and the sister in law who will soon be within easy walking distance)

My wife got the moving bug earlier this year and identified a nice estate near Morpeth she'd like to move to - even to the point of dragging me round the show homes. (Un)fortunately? we are friends with two couples who we get on great with. However, the wife of one couple can't get on with the husband of the other, leading to regular fallings out. Both couples have now bought on that estate and will be living a few hundred yards apart - something I'm delighted about as there is no way we are going to move there now and get in the middle of that disaster waiting to happen.

The parents in law are OK actually and we have been on several holidays with them and get on well. The sister in law is high maintenance with an idiot husband who doesn't know what end of a screwdriver to use so I can see me being called to do all sorts of jobs they should either do themselves or pay someone else to do. My wife is good at palming her off though but it is a bit of a concern.

Good news on the sale! I see you keeping a low profile whenever SIL appears - you'll be busy in your large garage I'm sure.

I have sent all the paperwork to Nationwide and haven't heard much/anything of note. I decided to enquire on their online chat and was told that all the documents have been signed off but our case owner has requested an extension on our transcript report and they should have this back soon. I asked him what the extension on our transcript report meant and silence..................................
Does anyone know what this means?

It means they're having second thoughts lending to you No idea at all. I've just moved from Nationwide to Nat West. The broker hasn't been particularly complimentary about Nationwide.

At 20% LTV I think they are on pretty safe ground. I took a 5 year fixed with Nationwide at 1.79% but Natwest and HSBC were a bit cheaper when I looked. The difference though was less than £10/mth and I thought it would be easier just to stay where I am so that they have the payment and financial history etc and hopefully make it easier. I just found it amusing that "Craig" on the online chat had obviously copied some note from the file that he didn't have a clue about and found it easier to disappear when I asked him about it. I pestered him again later and he did answer with a non answer by saying they would be back in touch if they needed anything else.
