Phone Audi UK today and tell them to sort it. Or pay yourself in a little while.

I'd be booking it in with the audi dealer today for investigation and point out it is still under warranty - try in 6 months and they will forget!!

It's due a Haldex service in 8,000 miles apparently. Everything seems to be nicely spaced out so it's back at the dealer every few months for summat! Do they clean the filter or just change the oil?

No idea. Lots of people say the filter doesn't get done unless you ask. I suppose the one good thing is that they've acknowledged there was a leak before the car was out of warranty. The filter can get full of ‘sludge’ as early as 12 months from new and VW don’t clean it when they change the oil unless you ask. If you leave it you can get issues, which starts with less traction than you’d expect.

I wouldn't accept what they've told you. I'd insist it went in for a thorough investigation as to why there is an oil leak from the diff UNDER WARRANTY.
Diffs are expensive. I bet Audi will charge the thick end of 4k to replace it out of warranty.

I think an easier solution might be complaining about the oil drips on your drive.
From memory it's a lot harder for the dealership to find, then fix a problem. If the customer notices it and complains, then it's easy.
Also, it used to be the case with VAG cars that you get slightly more than 3 years of warranty, it carries on until the end of the calendar month. Ie, if it was registered on the first of September, it would be the last day of September, three years later that it would run out.
VAG are very tight on warranty issues since the dieselgate fiasco and the third year is covered by Audi UK, as apposed to the factory cover of the first two years. They might be more reluctant to own an issue, maybe not.
I really do not miss having to process warranty claims. That was the reason that changed career.

I've emailed the service manager laying out what happened and what I was told. Said if I bring it back I'd get the Haldex service done at the same time. It's a 50 mile round trip so I don't wanna go back again in a few months! Unless they respond and accept any and all issues arising in that area, I wouldn't leave it at that.
My local dealership went from being shit to being pretty good, but now they are back at the 'shit and mercenary' stage.
Recent experience regarding a very small patch of corrosion. Took in before 12th anniversary, they examined, took photos and said they'd submit it to Audi UK for approval - saying that this might take some months. Five months later, I wrote, asking what was happening. No reply. Same letter by recorded, no reply. Sent a third time - no reply. Wrote to dealership's head office - no reply. rote to Audi UK who did get back to me, albeit slower than promised. So, let's guess what happened - is it:
a) Grovelling apology and work agreed to? b) Slap around dealership's face and contribution to costs? c) Finding out that dealership had rejected the work at outset, lied to me about what they'd done and then ignored me completely?
That I am going to a local indy who I know by name for the car's service and MOT tomorrow might help you guess.
Leicester Audi are shit, and I wouldn't trust another Audi franchise without a nailed-on guarantee in triplicate...

An all too familiar scenario from a main dealer - I think they are programmed to avoid telling the truth.

My red Golf was the same.
They replaced one wing and said to return in six months time when the corrosion had 'development'. When the day came, they weren't interested.

Kudos to Arnie Clark in this instance then; they easily & quickly agreed to replacing both the wings on mine - probably the most pleasant experience I ever had with that car in hindsight .. .. ..

As an aside, I very briefly met the dealer principal the other week, and my overall impression of him was that he was an arrogant twat.

Sorted. It's going back in next Weds for investigation and the Haldex service which is 36K OR 3 years and so should have been done when I was there last week! Good result. I'd be asking for decent courtesy motor on account of being dicked about and having to go back for work that wasn't done when it should have been done the first time round. Something S or RS, obviously.

I'd be wanting a video of the filter being changed and confirmation there is no excessive wear to the diff from the investigation

It was nice picking the car up from the indy this morning and them having done stuff off schedule for nothing, underbilled for hours and not focussed on trying to get me to have additional work done that doesn't yet need doing. Breath of fresh air!
