No suits where I work. Today I have been to a meeting at the Agricultural Engineers Association, so it is chino type trousers, a blue shirt, my old college tie and a, perhaps too loud, Brook Taverner tweed jacket; while standing up in brown Loake Chelsea boots. This is pretty much the uniform for such events...

No puffer gilette under the tweed? A Barbour one if I am at an outdoor event. I have not yet followed the trend towards Schoffel.

I largely wear whatever socks my wife has bought me. OMG A man who doesn't buy his own socks. Can hardly believe this ! Socks are so vitally important for comfort that you have to choose and buy your own, surely? I'm gutted that Tesco have stopped doing the style that I have been buying for many years and I have yet to find a suitable alternative.

Amazing that one of us is calling another of us out in a Fashion thread (admittedly regarding socks) and then refers to Tesco! Fully agree with the sentiment of being stylish and knowing what suits you. For me, this applies more to colours than to anything else. Some colours suit me quite well, others not at all

Black socks, almost always. My only diversion from that is my Sonic the Hedgehog socks. Always black socks at work, black trainer socks when wearing shorts, which is almost every day.

I am not desperately interested in socks and must have rather insensitive feet. Although seeing as today’s burgundy jobs were also cashmere blend and extremely soft and warm, I cannot complain about my wife’s choices in this respect!!

I have to admit that 90% of my socks come as presents from my daughter or wife and generally I have no complaints. However I am intrigued and am now going to google what Swole Panda bamboo socks are!

Swole Panda bamboo socks - you can get a subscription for new socks to be delivered every month! I know we now live in a world where we can't do without things we never knew we needed but a monthly subscription to socks. Really?
Having said that I had a boss many years ago (single guy who was totally minted) who used to buy new shirts every week because he couldn't be bothered with the washing and ironing, so this would be right up his street.

I don't get my socks by subscription, my wife goes to an Xmas Fair every year where Swole Panda have a stand and she buys a selection. They used to come in a nice quality presentation box that I use to keep cufflinks, collar stiffeners and spare buttons in. They've changed the box now, same quality just a less useful shape.

My socks come from Sports Direct. Many pairs of identical black Slazenger ones. They last a couple of years and I go and buy another load. Dickies HD work socks are great in the winter and are better value than the Bridgedales I used to buy - they don't fall down in wellies either.

Bamboo socks are very pleasant You might not think that way if you looked up how they turn what chinese builders use as scaffolding into a comfy sock. They're basically rayon socks.

I wear Darn Tough socks. Made in Vermont, not an Asian sweat shop and guaranteed for life. darntough.com/Gulp, apart from the price, they look like my kind of socks..... but I can usually buy 2 multipacks of 5 or 7 pairs each, for the price of a single pair of those ! EDIT: and from their website, regarding counterfeits (or should that be counter-feet??): "Next-level sock enthusiasts may enjoy this one. When a legit Darn Tough Sock and a counterfeit are turned inside out, the DTV Sock will not have “tails” between the Mountain Logo knit into several styles. We trim those. They serve no purpose and provide no level of comfort. In fact, if the inside of the sock looks like a bad case of bed head with yarn going every which way, it is likely not the real deal. We keep it tight." So the question has to be asked.... which of us is a "next-level sock enthusiast" ??

Hey, I'll try...
Walking socks do cost a few quid, but they are well worth it. We have Bridgedale ones and I've not worn a pair out yet. Do sometimes wear them as normal socks when it's particularly cold, but they are too thick and warm otherwise.

Walking socks and skiing socks are worth spending extra on.
And when I went hiking in the Andes a few years back, one of my fellow hikers gave me some raw sheep's wool to put inside my socks, particularly around and under your toes and it was the most miraculous stuff for avoiding blisters and foot-ache. It's initially uncomfortable but as you walk it then flattens and spreads out until you can no longer feel it, filling and supporting where there are natural cavities and thus reducing the occurrence of pressure points that can lead to blisters.

The trick to avoiding blisters used to be to wear two pairs of socks - a thinner inner sock, and a thicker outer. That way any friction used to be between the two layers of socks and not between skin and sock. It worked for me and you could even buy two layer socks that did the same job. Having said which, after having Hunter wellies for years and ditching them as the quality isn't what it was, I've discovered Muck Boot brand wellies. They have neoprene and are good for down to minus 20. They are so warm and comfy I can just step into them in my ordinary socks and take the dog out and don't need welly socks (just as well as the dog will have hidden them somewhere anyway.)

It'll have lanolin in it if it's straight off the sheep so it'll soften the skin on your feet, too. Not sure that's good thing as feet skin should be tough stuff.
I'm graduating to these Darn Tough socks over time because of the cost but the first pair I bought over 4 years ago still look and feel like new and I wear them to work, too. I now have trainer socks, walking socks and work socks, maybe 4 pairs of each. You can wear them for a few days at a time, too. They don't get whiffy because of the merino wool in them.

We've probably strayed to far into the areas of sheep and wellies now. The Welsh forumistas will be racing down from the hillsides to contribute their experiences soon.

I'm a gunna look up those wellies you spoke of. I'm virtually bog trotting around these parts when I take the dog out because there has been so much rain recently. Some of the footpaths have turned into streams!

Some of the footpaths have turned into streams! These are what I got: www.wellywarehouse.co.uk/mens-wellies/warm-wellies/muck-boots-muckmaster-mossMy Hunters were leaking and, like you, our nearby fields are flooded so I was fed up of coming back with sopping wet socks. It actually feels like there are little foot warmers in each welly. It takes my an hour and a quarter to drive back from work but I actually look forward to pulling them on and going out in the wet. Mrs Sacamano got a pair too and loves them as well. www.wellywarehouse.co.uk/womens-wellies/muck-boots-arctic-adventure-black-quiltHave I become a Welly Evangelist?
