I've just had a look. The Schwalbe Hurricanes and Rapid Robs I use on the MTB are cheap enough at £12 each and the Vitoria Zaffiros on the road bike aren't much more at £15 or so. Blimey. I bought a pair of Continental Race Kings for my MTB a couple of weeks ago and they were 37 quid. Each.

I will probably need to get some different tyres for the winter.

Having baulked at the cost of tyres for the bike, Mrs R's Captur needs 4 tyres soonish. I have been looking at Michelin Crossclimates. Bloody hell. 146 quid each. Might do 2 now and two a bit later.

I've seen a couple of tyre prices quoted in mags recently that have been a surprise. EVO's tyre test was one (under £100 for 225/45x18) and I think the other was either their new vs used one or some article in Modern Classics where they were quoting tyre prices for Porsches or something in the low/mid 100s.

I think Michelin are pricing Crossclimates off the back of some excellent reviews and a sharp increase in demand. Last time I looked they were 132 each, now 146 via Blackcircles. Crazy.

I was just perusing a website about the Open which starts next week.
The sentence about the penile rough stopped me in my tracks.
I have sent them an e-mail suggesting that they might want to check their copy and perhaps just stick to penal rough!!

Will they respond or are they going to be too cocky ? (are we going to encourage another pun run?)

Bought some very expensive yak cheese dog chews the other day. They looked like they'd last quite a while with a dog who is a powrful chewer, but my older mutt (who's not very big) was having a bit of trouble with them. The chews, however, have a feature where you can pop them in the microwave and they expand into a sort of puffed up version which looks like a Dentaflex chew, only it's crunchy rather than chewy. Saved me from wasting money!

Funny moment today when a turning into a left turn and a yoof in a Corsa did a double-take at my car; obviously couldn't work out what it is - can't think why! Excuse the red marker pen on the number plate.

How bloody much are bike tyres?! A couple of years ago I bought new tyres for my pushbike as the originals had perished..... almost as much as car tyres for small vehicles ! From what I remember, 2 tyres and 2 inner tubes cost around £45 I think mine are around £50 each. On my big bike anyway. On the other prob around £25.

With the number of tyres that the Police must buy for their vehicles, haven't they negotiated a discount with a supplier and included a staff discount into the scheme too?

Crossclimate are £132 fitted at Asda (tyre depot of your choice) discount is 10% but linked to an individual employee ......that said some poor sod did have their code online on hotdealsuk and others have been guessing numbers (it is basically an employee number so sequential!) Which have worked. Just paid fitter when turned up the price on email.
Happy to talk through

Cheers Bryan!
Chris, they get various procurement discounts but it's not passed directly to employees. There are corporate discount deals to emergency services staff, just the same as there are to other employers.

I too have a certain dislike of having to disclose exactly who I am and what I am watching. I have nothing to hide but it should surely be my choice if I want to make that information known.

I got annoyed listening to a radio ad for British Gas Local Heroes with a nice little rhyme which started with he lines: "Don't scream and shout, if you've a U bend that need straightening out" It's a damning indictment of the advertising agency they employed that has staff who are so lacking in plumbing knowledge that they think a U bend is meant to be straight. Did they not stop and ask themselves why it's call a U bend?!
