I've never driven a Mk1 or Mk2 Focus but I've heard good things about it. I have driven a Mk3 however and found it a bit 'meh'.

It was the utterly dull bit . What exactly was dull about the drive? Even if you don't drive with a heavy right foot ,and handling and steering feel isn't your bag , then I'm surprised the damping and ride didn't impress . All the controls were well weighted too . Again, not sure where dullness fits in . I haven't driven anything since that came close - my 306 gave it a good go, but was ageing. The focus was a much better package I've never driven one, so I confess that my opinion would be utterly worthless here. All I mean is that if it didn't float Chris's boat I think we can stop short of having him sectioned! Obviously, I don't think anyone here deserves sectioning (well, apart from that fella in the North East). I say it quite a lot in the informal way.

I was expecting great things but unfortunately have to say that I agree with the "meh" comment. "Floaty" and "diconnected" also springs to mind. That was up to the point the thing nearly put me in a ditch on a wet off-camber downhill right bend. Only a dab of oppo saved the day. I had the salesman next to me, so I was taking it pretty easy. I tried the same bend in my Civic straight away afterwards and it sailed round, despite not being renowned (as far as I am aware) for its handling prowess.

I had a 2.0 Mk1 and it was a cracking car. Great for B roads, gruntier with a K&N filter in it and did over 400 miles to a tank when we drove around Scotland. It was easily good enough to stay with my mates Celica at the time and I only sold it because it was difficult getting the kids seats into the back due to it being a 3 door.
I remember they said the Golf was inferior in pretty much everything except for the build quality. I know my car was easily quicker point to point than a Golf GTI of the time too.
The interior wasn't much, but it didn't break or fall apart...
