The Defender ‘Mark Edition’ You can fiddle around with it, taking it to bits and putting it back together as much as you like. Unsurprisingly, I love this and it is on the Christmas list! The cheapest project yet!

Yes, all well and good but, where does the V-8 go?

If I get my way, my sensible 300tdi will be getting replaced by a Cummins 6BT in the Black 90.😁
I met the fella in this video over the weekend.

^ the only one I'd consider owning. It looks like they reinvented the Disco purely so they could rename the old boxy-shaped one Defender. The 90 model looks like a Tonka toy. Aaannndd... if you want the 6 cylinder engine it'll cost you nearly 80 grand (if I've read the website correctly). Fuck. Right. Off! I don't recall you ever mentioning the even more exorbitant prices for the Merc G Wagen? There was a fairly telling comment in CAR mag's review - the editor of one of the specialist LR magazines said he can't ever picture himself replacing his 200k mile Defender TDi with one of these new ones, mainly because of the price.

I've heard farmers say similar - then you see a new Discovery/Sport parked in the yard.

I don't recall you ever mentioning the even more exorbitant prices for the Merc G Wagen? I wasn't aware we were discussing it at any point, but yes it is stupidly expensive, as well. Apparently Brabus have played around with it and their version costs over 500 grand!

That's why it's £160, it's the top of the range one!

There is a shop at the main train station in Berlin that has them in stock.... the box is massive, reckon it would take up most of the space in one piece of hand luggage.

I resisted the temptation
this time round....
Apart from over 1000 photos, I came back with very little "extra" over the outgoing journey.: one keyring, one fridge magnet and one lanyard plus a few leaflets and my 5-day public transport pass that cost 38 Euros which, although not a "real bargain" was realistically cheap as it also gave discounted admission to loads of places although I only had the opportunity to use it twice for that purpose.

I've just been to see a 110 they had at my dealer this afternoon and it's fantastic. Stands out from everything else, feels a special product and if the huge number of people who went to see it are anything to go buy it's going to huge success.

It's definitely a Mini Clubman on steroids from the A pillar back. I am also not sure that £60K is the price bracket the Defender should be playing in - it might seriously impact on Discovery sales.

It really isn't anything like a Mini in reality. It is quite distinct from the Discovery, and that hasn't been performing anyway. It feels cosier, and the boot is certainly too small for my needs, but it's very individual. I think they've got a massive hit on their hands.

I was at Caffeine and Machine yesterday and there was a LWB Defender in the main carpark. It was in a dark grey, with no blingy bits and, covered in a good layer of road grime, especially up the rear, it looked absolutely fucking fantastic. It's the first one I've seen up close and to me, at least, it has huge appeal.

How heavy are these? I've seen the performance figures and they're rather pedestrian even for 4x4 standards.
Having been on the configurator my spec came in a 62k which is rather punchy or about £1k a month on a PCP.

Couldn't find the weights, didn't have time to spend ages looking. Base engine is the 2.0 Ingenium diesel P200 with 200PS so shouldn't be slow. Maybe you'd want the P400 3.0 6 cylinder hybrid but that's a bit pricey. Like 78k pricey.

Unladen weight 2.3-2.4 tonnes for a 110.
200hp with that weight to lug around will be slow.

Were Defenders ever meant to be fast? I thought Land Rovers were bought for their go anywhere nature? If you want fast do you not just by a RR Sport?

It needs to be able to plod along at 1,500 rpm, towing a three tonne trailer. Our Nissan Navara fleet at work will do this all day long with a 190 PS engine.

I bet that sort of activity will be fairly limited with the new Defender, people will continue to buy pickups and other (cheaper) stuff for proper work.

Quite, New Defender is will appeal to the fashionistas. But those guys are coming out of things like Macans and are probably used to a certain degree of pace.

There is a big market for high end utility vehicles. I know three people with Discovery 5 commercials all of which are TD6 engined. The waiting list for the Defender is already huge with only the family friendly versions so far launched. When the commercial offerings come along and the 130 another wave of buyer will be there to take them.

I imagine that the committed caravaners (Sorry mobile chicane owners) will go for the 130 too.

I got a chance to take a gander at the new Defender the other day as there was one on display in the middle of Courmayeur no doubt being firmly aimed at the moneyed chalet owner. It was a 5dr and really rather huge. I like the side profile and rear in general but don’t think they’ve got the front quite right.

I followed one out testing on the road a couple of days ago, on the A46 near Tewkesbury. This one was a sort of dark metallic mossy green. I agree that the rear looks nice.
