From my experience on our JCW - Sport button (settings ECO / Normal / Sport) sharpens up the throttle and makes it hold gears longer and change down sooner. I'm not sure if that is a gearbox change or just that the throttle mapping means that is the effect on the gearbox. M on the gearbox (shift lever over to left) immediately makes it change down about 2 gears and hold gears for stupid lengths of time when going up the gears. I can't recommend it. Paddles - in D allow you to change up and down as you wish, but if not touched for about 20 seconds defaults back to D. In M on the gearbox is full manual mode. Sport button + M gearbox = full attack mode. I very much doubt that would be worth doing with your mother in the car :-)
