I very nearly bought one of those 5 years ago but was beaten to it by one of the mechanics at the garage I worked at. It had 150k miles on and he got it for about £600.

Yes, I saw that. I do miss it - practicality, handling and noise. I don’t miss the expense though.

Same goes for my Golf. 24 mpg and £500 VED spoilt the ownership experience for me a little. The consumption I could put up with but that tax bill every year really wound me up.

That’s why he doesn’t miss the expense, it’s going on the TreVors Brooms and the new project!

I never had a Spec B, but I deeply miss my old Legacy Turbo.
Apart from the fuel costs, as above.

I'd forgotten how dull they were styled.

Always thought they were a good looking car.

Always thought they were a good looking car. Grille's miles too small.

They looked a lot better as an estate - as do many cars IMO.

Yep. Almost any saloon/hatch car above Focus size looks better as an estate. Even the Insignia, which is a terrible looking car.
Speaking of which, I saw a new Focus estate the other day. What an abomination. Who signed that shitter off?

Careful, I’m possibly considering it as a replacement for the Golf. The lack of a hybrid model is making it difficult to justify from a tax perspective. The new Corolla Tourer is looking a more likely option and as an estate doesn’t look too bad.
