We've been watching Toast of London on Netflix. Amusing.

Got a soft spot for Toast in this house too - not uproariously funny, but Matt Berry carries the character to a tee. As does Doon MacKichan.
Just finished the first series of Happy Valley - good, but I'm sure the trades description act would have something to say about it...

Yeah, that's always looked too depressing for me to want to watch it.

Drone, a Sean Bean film with Mary McCormack and directed by Jason Bourque or is the Burk. This film has some of the speed of a dead slug trapped in a superglue spill, characters have the depth of a single sheet of A4 paper and a quick fire dialogue that could cut a failed first year drama student to the quick, or the get out of the cinema quick. Glad to say I bought the DVD but sad to say the same so that is time and money I will never get back. The highlight of the film is that bit at the end where the six actual cast members get their shame bared to the world for posterity and the crimes against humanity trial. Perhaps, instead of purchasing/watching this film you might like to try naked skydiving from 30,00' into a pool of sharks, with blood in the water. Or you could juyst save yourself and innocent third parties from the horror that is, Drone, droning on an a living room near you.

The Dowler book is fantastic, and as much about the police's failings and their treatment at the media's hands as the abduction of her sister. It isn't the sort of thing I'd normally read, but I strongly recommend it.

I quite like rag 'n' bone man, good voice ..needs stronger material Also went through the 'critics' favourite albums of the year so far and listened to several artists ...Kendrick Lamar ,no idea what fuss is about ,same with Drake. LCD sound system ,I liked their last album and this is more of the same, think it will be boring quickly though. Foo fighters album ..like all the rest ,2 or 3 decent songs and the rest is filler. What I do like but was from last year I think is the Bon iver album.

Recent additions: Dan Auerbach, really catchy retro album, but very short. Mr Jukes, eclectic dance, soul, rap fusion type thing, pretty good. Fleet Foxes, song titles are totally unpronounceable nonsense and the songs themselves aren't really anything of a departure, but if you like the first two albums you'll like this one too.

Rag N bone man will likely disappear pretty soon. He can sing, but suffers from what I call a 'fake' voice: He sounds like a 62 year old black soul singer, not an overweight ginger white man - his voice isn't natural sounding to me. Amy Winehouse was the same.
The new Killers stuff is pretty good - the latest track has a very New Order bassline to it.
I was unfortunate enough to hear the new Arcade Fire track. What the ever loving fuck is that about?

I watched the film 'Network' last night. It's a mid-70s comedy drama about the takeover of a US TV network and the sudden mental decline of one of its newscasters.
Despite its age it still feels very relevant today with the changing attitude and lowering standards of what is acceptable on screen.
One of the weirdest moments, though, is when the head (the same actor who was the 'piggy' victim in Deliverance) of the parent company gives a monologue to the newscaster - his mannerisms, both vocal and physical, are VERY reminiscent of Donald Trump. It's to the extent that you feel that Trump must've based himself on this particular character!

Watched The Circle thew other night. Reviews either loved it or hated it. I quite enjoyed it, although the premise is rather scary and even worse, quite believable.

Saw Limehouse Golem last night. Highly recommended, although the blood and gore may not be to everyone's tastes, although no worse I suppose then stuff on GOT. There's nothing like a good throat slitting to make me squirm in my seat.

Series 2 is even better.
Watched Stand by Me at friends over the weekend, and whilst it's not without its flaws we really enjoyed it - hadn't seen it in donkey's years..

I spent an amusing 15 minutes last night looking at 'shred' videos on You Tube They're basically amusingly dubbed versions of music videos. By far the funniest was one of Creed's 'Stand Here with Me'. I haven't laughed that much for quite a while.

We went to see Blade Runner 2049. It has had fantastic reviews and is certainly an epic sci-fi extravaganza. And it is not a sequel to the original Blade Runner, but to the directors cut that had the different ending. And it is one of those sequels where you have to have seen (and understood) the directors cut prequel, or else you'll be lost. I am sure some people will sit there going "WTF is going on??".

Watched Loopers on DVD last night. Very clever - see it. Essentially it involves time travel. Using it to send people the mob want to get rid of back in time so they can be killed 30 earlier so no comeback. But there are several twists to that.... I won't spoil the ending.

Gary Numan at The O2 Academy in Newcastle last night was brilliant. I hadn't realised he was 59 - I remember being at his 50th birthday concert - the guy still has plenty of energy. The set comprised songs from his new album Savage (really good) as well as some re-workings of Metal, Cars and Are Friends Electric.
Bit deaf today.

The Numan album is a bit too front loaded to my ears, ie you start off thinking it's really good because all the best songs are on 'side 1' , but end up thinking it was merely OK because it tails off too much. I also had trouble working out where he ended and Nine Inch Nails began for most of it.
On the plus side, his syrups are looking more convincing these days.
