I'm browsing caravan adverts. It's definitely serious, as I've ordered 13 pin electrics for the truck and a proper Alko ball. Are you aware that a lot of caravan sites don’t let pickups in? Fine if you want to pitch up in a field, but could be an issue if you’d prefer somewhere with decent facilities. Unless they need the access road resurfaced…..couldn’t resist! (Serious about the first point)

50kwh charging on Range Rover I think. Mine is 3.6kwh so takes 3 hours to charge Yes, but I assumed workplace chargers will be 7.2 kWh

I think I posted recently that someone I know had sold his Taycan and bought a BMW X5 45e because the Taycan only managed 160/180 miles on a full charge. After 2 months of ownership he has now put down a deposit on a new Range Rover hybrid which he won't get till next year. The reason is the charging rate. Apparently the X5 can only charge at 3.7Kw/h which means it takes about 7 or 8 hours to charge to full from empty. During the day he has access to chargers at many of the sites he visits but at the slow charge rate he doesn't have time to wait for any meaningful charge to be added. I had never really given this much thought (and it wouldn't bother me) but for some users it is now important to choose a hybrid which will charge quickly too. Isn’t the battery on the Range Rover about double the size of the X5…so it will still take him 7 to 8 hours to charge….! I know he will get more range, but I think he’ll just be paying a lot more money and not reducing his frustration all that much. I don’t have any sympathy though, he should have known the charging speed before buying the car and the real world range of a Taycan. Why is he bothered about a few miles of electricity? It’s only 200 miles a day, stick it in adaptive and let the car figure out the most efficient way to do it. I have free charging at most of my sites and stay several hours so would be worth plugging in if I ever go to the dark side.

This has been a bit of a PR nightmare for BMW with lots of complaints. However they have now clarified what they mean: when a car is ordered it can be specced with anything the purchaser wants and those items will remain in the car, working at no cost for the life of the car. Any subsequent owner (or the original owner) would get all the extras the first owner paid for but will also be able to unlock other items which were not included by the original owner, by subscription. They should just have said this in the first place! That’s how I expected it to work (but they weren’t clear) and why I’ve always thought it was OK and made sense.

I wouldn't even consider that white one against the grey one the M Sport spec is well worth the difference. Good to see you've moved up to G31 models. I’d rather have an F11 530d/530d than a basic G31 520d and spend some of the saving on fuel. BMWs should have a minimum of 6 cylinders….

I sometimes go for an imaginary Engine Start button on the Cayman after being in the other two cars, and I sometimes go for the stupid electric handbrake switch with my right hand in either the Yaris or the M3 after being in the Cayman At least all three cars have six-speed manuals and three pedals! Do you have to manually apply the handbrake in the Cayman? I don’t think I’ve ever touched the handbrake button in either car.

How many extras will be physically able to fall into this model ? Heated wheel, seats and some infotainment fluff ? Exactly and I don’t see it as an issue at all. Anyone who leases a car or has a PCP is paying a monthly charge already and what’s another few £ on top?

I’m trying to remember the last time I drove a manual…. edit: I can’t think of one since we sold the Boxster almost exactly 4 years ago. Every hire car I’ve had has been an auto, even the smaller stuff in Thailand / Malaysia and the only loan cars I’ve had since then have been autos (X5 / 7 series).

We’ve got two automatics with electric handbrakes, keyless entry/start and memory seats, so it’s all very easy. Some of the controls work differently, but nothing that ever causes any issues.
I don’t remember having any issues driving a manual when we had the Boxster, but this dog is older now so who knows what it would be like now.

That looks way, way better than the white one. A huge step up vs the cost increase. Pre crap instruments as well, one benefit of getting an earlier car.

For comparison according to the OBC I'm getting about 43 with the 430 compared to 44/45 with the 320. The latter was an xDrive which might dent things a bit. Otherwise the driving is similar between the 2 cars. xDrive is definitely OFF the want list, due solely to the issues you experienced! I find with 2-ltre vs. 3-litre, there is very little difference in mpg when cruising on a run, but a significant difference when driving 'around the doors'. That was my thinking, though without any sort of back-to-back comparison. I was also thinking that servicing costs would be higher for the 3-litre option, bigger bills if things go bang, etc. It does sound significantly better though, along with the extra 'shove'. Not really doing a good job of talking myself out of it, am I? And nor should you! It does sound significantly better and you’ll enjoy that plus the extra torque / effortless every day. Well worth the small increase in fuel costs imo. You’ve a better chance of getting a decent spec on a 530d as well. How many miles do you do a year?

Other than the colour…not really, but it’s quite light on options. I’d want Professional Nav to fill out the screen housing and there are a few other things that would be nice to have such as a panoramic roof.

The cheapest diesel here is still over £1.90….£1.92 at Asda. Diet unleaded is £1.85 and the good stuff is similar to diesel.

The Porsche used car finder. You can save a search and set up alerts. Just had a quick look, the GTS has gone and so has the S I looked at, no surprise I suppose. I'm sure you do believe me..... but just in case, here is another S, which is just under 6 months old and is list price. The other S was cheaper / lower spec and available now, this one isn't until October. finder.porsche.com/gb/en-GB/details/porsche-macan-s-preowned-YV2X59Edit: They've dropped full fat (Matrix) LED headlights from the configurator for the Macan, hopefully they are still on your order. I think that would be a deal breaker for me, it's the one thing that annoys me about the Golf (they were standard from 2019MY) every time I drive it in the dark. I know its a boring thing to say but 80K for a Macan S just looks mad expensive. I know I'm way out of reality but think that should be 20 grand cheaper at least. I don't think I'm that far from reality, but even so, anything over £70k or maybe £75k for a really nice spec (I'd be at £87k for a GTS....) is a lot for a small SUV, no matter what the badge or the amount of Gussying up! It's the estimated monthly depreciation figure I look at, which being a Macan helps a bit. But even so, at £87k it would be over £1,000 a month (48 month/60k miles exc any lost interest on savings). On Porsche finance at 7.9% APR, it must be getting on for £1,400 a month... So yes, whichever way you look at it, mad expensive.

Used values do seem to be softening. A couple of local main dealers I pass regularly have big sale banners everywhere and quite a few of the cars in my Autotrader garage have come down in price over the last week. Porsche have an unregistered Macan GTS at list price and 3-4 month old facelifted/new interior/well specced S versions for just under list, they were asking a premium a month ago, especially for the GTS. Same with the Cayman GTS 4.0, list price for a 3 month old car is a lot better than it was. Where? I look quite regularly and haven’t seen any? They all still look ridiculously overpriced to me. The 5 has been out for a good few months now, I’m guessing the 5s won’t be far off. Can you wait or do they need doing now ? I know that’s aimed at John, but it’s a good point and won’t help my dithering… It might not be available immediately in M5 size, depends if they’re already working on a *marked tyre.

Are PZero Corsas not a bit like Pilot Cup 2 tyres - not advised in the wet? I'll have a look at Asda Tyres but I want to make sure whoever fits them doesn't wreck the wheels. Yes, proper summer tyres!! It's what Alfa fit to the Giulia Quadrifoglio as standard and I don't think they're that bad in the wet. That's important, luckily they gave me the option of the fitters I've used several times before and have been very happy with.

A full set of PS4S. I'm in a similar position with the Golf, fronts down to 4mm with the inside edges down to 3mm and about 4.5mm on the rears. I could just replace 2 with Conti 5Ps as I don't have any complaints, but I'm going to replace the full set, probably with PS4S. The Conti 7 is available in the right size which is making me dither a bit, but the PS4S does get great reviews and seems to suit the Golf really well. Just looked on Blackcircles and a full set of PS4S for the M5 is £1,118 fitted, but as I found when I bought a set for my car, Asda Tyres are cheaper at £1,025 Edit: or as you've got a set of winter tyres, how about a set of P Zero Corsa for £1,085

It was £86K and is now £81K via 2 price drops but the one I found him before (in a special order light blue metallic colour) was £73K and less miles so they are still well overpriced IMHO. Porsche warranty can only be extended to 10 years old so too many risks I think. I agree. Better to drop the NA idea and spend another £13k on the one I linked to, which had 2 years warranty and the option to extend for another 4 years after that expires.

That's lovely but he is holding out for a 991.1 because it is naturally aspirated. I found him one about 18mths/2 years ago and he couldn't decide if he liked the colour. It was soon sold and then prices increased over time by £10K/£15K so I think he may have missed the boat! I assume it's over £80k? That is a lot for a 7 year old 911, even more so when compared to a 3 (and a bit) year old 991.2 for another £15-20k (which still feels like a lot!)

A 911 GTS I have been watching for a friend is now £5K cheaper than it was 2/3 months ago but it was priced stupidly previously (probably only about £10K cheaper than it was new, 7 years and 25K miles ago) Still crazy then, but heading in the right direction. Worth spending a bit more to get something like this? finder.porsche.com/gb/en-GB/details/porsche-911-carrera-4-gts-preowned-7VQGX7

Trago Mills though: you have to buy a garden gnome and set of specialist can openers to get the deal on petrol. Probably a bit more than the c£15 I'd save per tank then! I'd also happily pay an extra £15 not to queue for the fuel!! Petrol is a better saving that diesel, but even so, I bet a high % of people in that queue are 'only' going to save £5-10 and they'll burn some of that sitting there with the engine and air con running plus whatever they've used driving out of their way to get the saving.

Second guess today. Was confused by Chris’ comment about it being a favourite so I was thinking Honda Aerodeck or some such. Same here, but I knew from the first picture it wasn't a Ford MPV or even a Fiesta.
