Apparently Friends is homophobic and racist now. I was reading this and laughing my fucking arse off! What kind of dainty flowers are there out there that they can't watch a sitcom from a couple of decades ago without thinking its scripts and characters are akin to the slave trade or Nazi Germany? If we were to have a war with the Eastern Europeans and/or the Russians we're basically fucked. Edited to add: I'm going to YouTube "It ain't half hot, mum" and "The Jeffersons" all evening now. +1 I just read a few news articles on this. LMFAO indeed. Dear millennials - it is a fucking TV show. It's comedy. If you are offended, don't watch it. Everyone jokes that western civilisation is basically fucked, but give it a generation and it will be true. It'll be replaced. What with remains to be seen.

The irony is lost on these people. By being like they are, they are going to bring about the absolutist one party system they say they despise. Oh yes, that's it. They know they are right and so a society controlled by them is OK. A society controlled by anybody else is fascist. As michael says, they are morons.

You don't think we're already there? The real power in politics these days is motivating an army or moral but clueless crusaders who steer policy and political decisions through outrage and offence.

They’d explode watching Till Death us do part and In Sickness & Health. +1 What has happened to people's sense of humour? Why are some people so serious and so easily offended? - any why are these people's numbers apparently growing so rapidly?

Because everyone in the western world is now so well pampered and catered for that they have little else to worry about. Perhaps life is just too easy now?

Imagine having to go back to hunting clingfilm-wrapped wild animals for lunch and dinner ........

Well maybe we are in terms of power as you say. Very worryingly. The one saving grace is that the rest of us can still joke about them with our friends and have a laugh at their expense amongst ourselves and say "are they fucking serious?". When that becomes impossible as the Safe Space Stasi monitor us all of the time, we're really at the end game. 1984 will have arrived.

I watched Friends tonight. I'm traumatised. I'm suing Comedy Central for showing it.
Then I'm going to sue the American networks for making it in the first place.
Then I'm going after the individual cast members: Joey for being a misogynistic oaf; Chandler for marrying Monica; Phoebe for being that weird girl that you'd wake up next to one morning; Ross for being the giraffe from Madagascar and Rachel for ..... tell you what; I'll let the cast off if they let me have a bang on Rachel.

What has happened to people's sense of humour? Why are some people so serious and so easily offended? - any why are these people's numbers apparently growing so rapidly? Offence is weaponised as mechanism to shut down arguments, shout about offence and outrage and you move away from reasoned discussion and it becomes more about attack and defence. We've seen it here and we see it all the time in politics. Rather than argue a point it's much easier to claim offence and retreat to a safe space full of people sharing the same outlook. We likely are doomed.

I once mentioned that a person of dark skin may not want to use a particular hand dryer as it was broken. After screaming abuse he continued to try to use said broken hand dryer. Apparently I was not allowed to say the hand dryer was broken and taking away someone's choices and was racist too. No, not haunting public toilets, I had been to Asda and had to wash my hands after taking a crap. Such things does Asda drive folk to, all the excitement........

I would guess that person was just deranged though.
We had a similar incident in a local restaurant lately. We were waiting for the bill when a chubby 40-something woman in an indecently short skirt and generally too-tight clothing barged in listening to hip-hop via the speaker of her iPhone and sat down at a nearby empty table. When the staff tried to move her and threatened to call the police, she screamed abuse and obscenities at them. Then as we stood up to go, she moved to our table where she sat down cussing and then asked if she could grab my crotch. At which point, a big Spanish bloke on the next table stood up and basically chased her out of the restaurant.
All very odd. But she had problems of her own for sure.

And yet, out of that silly decision, comes yet more whiney nonsense: "Mrs Clare said all of the parents she has spoken to have been upset, too. "Some of these children are on the autistic spectrum and are in a routine. "Since the ban, crossing the road has become a little bit confusing to the children... and they've gone to school upset because Colin hasn't high-fived them and they can't understand why.""

I don’t really see how that’s whiney. She’s just saying the kids are upset by it. If they are autistic they likely can’t understand why he seems less friendly.

My point is that everyone has to underline their reason for being unhappy about something with a "substantial" reason why. It's as if being unhappy about it and believing that the council have overreacted isn't enough, you then need to really hammer the point home.
So, in this case, how would children with autism cope if the old boy was off ill? Would the parents then start saying that they can't deal with the change when a temporary employee comes along? How do they manage on a weekend or in school holidays? But, as I said, my main point is that some people feel the need to try and have a cast iron reason why their opinion or case is so much more important because of "X" reason.

For a child with autism it’d be easier to accept a different person to one treating them differently for no apparent reason - it’d much more difficult to understand.
As for your first point there seems to be some factor of local news that escalates these matters beyond what they were regardless of the issue. The Angry People in Local Newspapers Facebook page is perfect at highlighting this.
