I've always liked the 8 series, right from when I saw a photo of one in Autocar in the 90s.

Z1 looks amazing but the 8 series I'm glad to say has now had its day in my eyes.
I say I'm pleased its had its day as I always quite liked them but know they'll probably lead to financial ruin, so it more a bullet dodged.

I was never that keen on the Z1 but would've loved an 8 series. However, as others have said, it would be a money pit.

My friend who had an 8 series for several years (an 840 so not the V12) didn't find it too financially ruinous. But then he is a mechanical engineer and did a lot of ebay shopping for parts when needed and a lot of his own work. The thing he found was that if you went looking for 8 series parts, or needed a unique part, you did have to pay very well. But underneath what you can see, everything else is pretty much straight from a 7 series of the same era. And 7 series parts are way cheaper.
