www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Opel-Monza-GSE-3-0-Manual-LSD-Extensive-documented-history-and-restoration-/172748781461My Dad had a Monza 3.0E when I was a kid. It was mint and I absolutely loved it, but it had to be sold when my parents divorced. 7 years ago, I very, very nearly bought a Monza GSE, but it was too far to travel to look at it and I certainly wasn't going to blind bid on ebay for it. (I ended up buying the Primera GT instead...) Thankfully, these don't seem to have fallen into the barn-find silly money trap just yet. At 5k, you could buy this and drive it daily and it would probably still go up in value. These things make a great noise even with a standard exhaust on. Plus it is a rare manual. Don't forget the digi-dash (Which is actually a bit shit but pure 80's nostalgia) If I were in a position to man maths right now, I'd be man mathsing myself into a froth and working out where I could park it.

What do they actually drive like? I love Vauxhalls/Opels of this vintage. Mk1 Astra, Opel Manta & Vauxhall Senator to name a few.
There was a Mk1 Astra GTE in Modern Classics last issue and it drove much better than the equivalent Ford, but not quite as well as the Golf. I seem to recall that they sounded awesome with a great induction noise.

I was only 8 when we had our Monza so obviously never drive it. But to all intents and purposes they were a good steer. RWD, independent suspension and a long wheelbase. Lovely engines as well.

My Dad bought a Monza with a manual box when I was in my early 20s. As Blarno said, they do make a lovely noise and they do go well. I remember it being able to ppull off that trick of being a wafty cruiser when you wanted it to be or a good B-road balster when the time was right. Windows down, sunroof open and head to the local Young Farmers disco. Those were the days...

A mate I used to work with had a mark two Capri which was, 'interesting' to say the least. It had the usual rust around the headlamps but rather than use filler in the panels he used concrete. He got rid of the Capri for a Monza when they were not going for much. Concrete as filler, weird or what?
