In terms of flouncers it seems like we had an abundance.

A wee bit harsh? Flouncing is a public act, complete with a metaphorical turn of the head and stomping off.

So come on Phil, why the stomping off? Seems those that like to hold court are the ones that always like a flounce. Sometimes it feels more like a support group than a forum.

Thanks Michael. My names and I'm a forum addict Phew, I've said it. You kind of didn't but the first step is to admit you have a problem.

He didn't stomp off or flounce, he decided to stop posting. This is a fair example of the sort of low tolerance post that I think constitutes a change in atmosphere. There's no humour in this, it's just sneering and confrontational. Helps no-one, and probably makes him think he's made the right decision.

I'm afraid that's utter bollocks. I've met Ed a few times and I can honestly say he's one of the most pleasant bastards you'll ever meet. In terms of being a nice person I think he wins here hands down. So to suggest his comment is sneering or confrontational isn't just unhelpful and aggravating, it's just plain wrong. Phil no doubt has his reasons not to post but the only person making an issue of this is you.

You don't have to quote my every post, you know. I'll say this in the most simple terms, as you are, I think, deliberately misunderstanding me. At no point did I say Ed was those things. Never met him and probably never will. But his post is both of those things to my mind. A simple but important distinction, so don't resort to dismissing with crudity.
My reason for doing what I am doing is this. The forum does not attract new members. It has gradually lost them, and I think has around half the members it did when we split from Autocar many years ago. At the moment, we seem to be contracting and losing people I personally value. Maybe others don't, but whether they do or not, a forum cannot survive with too few members - there's just not enough to talk about when numbers reach a critical low (whatever that might be). I don't want that to happen. Forum life has been part of my life for the best part of two decades, and I'd really miss it. If we aren't more considerate and accommodating, we will accelerate reaching the point of disappearing. But who knows. Maybe it is inevitable.
Please stop trying to pick fights with me though. I won't be reading anything else added to this thread. As things stand, I don't think I need to, frankly.

I won't be reading anything else added to this thread. As things stand, I don't think I need to, frankly. I'm afraid quoting a post is the most convenient way to refer to what has been written when you're using a phone to access this forum. I can assure you I am not deliberately misunderstanding you, I'm simply expressing a point of view on this that differs from yours. With regard to your point about what you were or were not saying about Ed, well it really does come across that you were but I'll take your word for it that you weren't because I've never met you and don't know what you're like. It's easy to misunderstand anyone on a text forum and that is likely where most issues arise. It's probably why you've defended FB, who I believe you have met, even though to those of us who haven't met him his comments came across as patronising. One difference between a community and a clique is that a community has a difference of opinions and a clique does not. We are not a clique and I for one will always speak my mind if I think I'm right and if there is a problem people should be grown up enough to raise it. This generally works well, but for those who struggle with different view or opinions then perhaps it makes sense for them to go. Earlier in this thread I suggested ways to improve the forum by starting new threads and talking about cars. Perhaps you'd share your own ideas about to improve the place too. (Although of course you're not reading this). Above all it is just an Internet forum, it's lasted longer than expected but if it goes cold then so be it.

The same could be said for you and all the lovely other buggers I've met from the is forum.
Those that flounce/leave whatever you want to call it, are of course, entitled to do as they like but it would be good to know some reason behind it as we're all keen that there are as many folk here as possible.
I've had the pleasure in meeting a number of the guys here and as far as I can remember liked and got on with all of them, though they may say different about me
The site has less traffic for sure and the meets we've arranged over the last few years are certainly down on numbers but I'd love to see more people get involved. Highlights for me have been a holiday with Michael and Piers to the Nurburgring, trips to Geneva for the motorshow with Andy and Stu, Goodwood, Prescott, Silverstone Classic etc . It would be great to have more but understand people have lives outside of here or have no interest in meeting strange blokes off of the internet.
I think what riles people up is that some people leave the forum to make a statement, not Phil but we have had people drift off and then expect to be welcomed back with fanfare or for us to make a song and dance about them leaving

I'd never read that Evoque thread on the old forum before until it was linked to here and thought FB was being a massive dick way back then in 2011 or whenever it was. I for one am glad he's gone and can only hope he doesn't do an Alan and keep returning. He has posted obnoxiously towards nearly everyone on here at some point, so good riddance. I am now going for a piss, so that by the time I get back it'll be too late to edit this post and it can be here for eternity!
