Always believed this. Always stood by this as a good rule.
However when we got home today, the puppy (10 months old) had ripped through a pair of my shoes, a package that had been shipped internationally for Christmas and had consumed a box of smarties.
If this behaviour doesn’t change soon, we will be a one dog family again.
Not serious, just venting. Dumb dog.

Careful, chocolate is poisonous to dogs.

Careful, chocolate is poisonous to dogs. That’s my other concern. Hopefully he’s going to be ok. We’ve never given them chocolate for that reason and keep them on a diet that’s good for them.

You will get used to small but inquisitive animals shortly and relearn to put everything out of reach while leaving the toilet lid closed at all times. I am sure you will get over the rough patch shortly.
Not exactly your first rodeo after all.

Our 9 month old pup is confined to the kitchen and family room by a baby gate across the kitchen door, separating him from the presents under the tree. If he gets out there will be carnage. Xmas day will be mayhem because he'll want to be in the middle of all the unwrapping.

Well the dog is still alive and bouncing around today. I’ve not ventured outside to see if there are any disastrous turds yet...

Had our bigger dog at the vets this morning as he hasn't been himself over the weekend. We noticed what looked like an abscess in the gum above one of his canines. We had some Loxicom so kept him on that over the weekend and he perked up quite a lot.
He is booked in a week on Friday for a full dental and has more Loxicom and antibiotics to tide him over Christmas and New Year.

We used to have a Jack Russell which you would think would be a great mouse catcher - No! He once saw a mouse in the feed room at the stables and turned to us as if to say "did you see that?" He had no interest in chasing small things but cats and big dogs were a totally different matter.

When we were clearing the last of a grain pile at the farm the mouse intensity always increased as they retreated back into the diminishing mound. This was the opportunity to pick them up by the tail and toss them up in the air towards one of the dogs, who would catch it in mid air and gulp down whole.

I’ve caught many a mouse ,but they go out into a box and I release them into a field ,except the one that I released that decided to run Under the rear wheel of my car as I reversed .

I was once out for a walk with our two dogs and saw a fella with 3 or 4 Jack Russels looking at the floor. I got closer and he said "Look at that" so I looked down and there was a field mouse just merrily going about its business, totally oblivious to 2 humans and 5 or 6 dogs. It even jumped up onto my shoe to nibble on a seed it had found. No idea if it had a genetic defect that meant it didn't have any fear or that it was blind perhaps, but I can't imagine it lasted long.
Amazingly, none of the dogs noticed it.

Sadly my father-in-law's Jack Russell passed away just this morning. She was 15 and increasingly frail, so not unexpected, but it's still sad. She was fine two nights ago when we last saw her but was apparently off her food last night and just incapable this morning. Had to be put down, poor old dear.

A few nights ago I was out watching the local animals, and the wildlife and saw Greebo sat watching a spot in the path. When I got closer she was eyeballing a mouse that was trying to stare her down. Not sure either knew what to do. Mouse was quietly relocated which really po'd Greebo. I wonder when the hard frosts will come, the Robins will happily take food from a hand when that happens. Raisins by preference.

Our three year old newf has developed a phantom pregnancy this Christmas. She seems to have adopted a plastic squeaky doughnut, squeaky pig and a fluffy reindeer as her offspring. She has taken to creating a nest on the sofa in the kitchen.

We're at the sis-in-law's house and I want to leave because our dog has been home alone all day but she's refusing to go. There will be an argument on the way home when we eventually leave.

TBB, a common side effect from the common family shindig or visit.

On the subject of Christmas, I got just two gifts. 1. A Barbour leather wash bag. 2. A Ted Baker leather wash bag. Couldn't make it up!

It's a much longer story but basically we did an online Secret Santa thing this year and on the website you could make a wish list that your Santa could read through and choose a gift from. I needed a new wash bag after some insect repellent melted my old one and so added one to the list. Mrs P also knew I needed one and ended up buying the same thing!
