I bought one of those, or something very similar, a couple of months ago to replace the cheaper versions from B&Q that seemed utterly useless. It also emits a strobe light effect.
There are signs it may be more effective than the previous ones. We swapped the cars around about a month ago so the Fiat now lives out back, and there's been no sign of foxy footprints so far - they show up pretty clearly on white paintwork.
