Ah yes, to get published in "from the forums" was the ultimate accolade. I made it once. How sad is it that I remember? I imagine the framed and wall-mounted cut-outs from the magazine help! I only made the magazine once too but my framed clipping had to come down when we had kids and baby pictures took its place

Are you remote operating my webcam to see my study ;-) I'm sure I did keep the page from the magazine somewhere, but I'm not sure where! Time for a study muck-out.

Sorry to bring it up..... A great many of the in-jokes / phrases that we still use are from that period. Like scamper spec; FG; Snow-mode; donkernator.

Does anybody recall the 'Bad Roo' episode? I had been in the US and returned to find users had all attached Roo to their handle for some reason. I never did figure find out what when on. Wasn't he an actual, genuine motoring journalist who had stumbled into our amateur hour and then had a go at everyone? I was there in 2004, it kept me sane when I was really, really, really bored and fed up at work! I don't think so, I just think Roo was an arse in the mould of Scummyplum etc. There was one guy who used to post in the new cars/in the mags sections who we were pretty sure was Chris Harris or someone, just couldn't get him to admit it. I think the 'Roo' episode started with Roo calling him out over it.

What about the angry guy who claimed he drove an Elise? Alan Anderson, or something?

I am proud to have coined 'Moonboots' - originally the 'defensive owner's cape and moonboots', iirc.

I was there, joined in late 2005 when I still had the Legacy Turbo (Just before I chopped it in for an Escort GTi). Got a couple of 'from thr forums' accolades as well.

I had my 2005 Lexus IS with Snow Mode when I joined. I'm going to miss that car if we have a bad winter this year.

Your xDrive will be fine in the snow, you'll get to enjoy full opposite lock slides at 6mph while still actually maintaining a bit of forward momentum.

I think a few people spotted it but I think it was when he finally posted pictures of 'the Monaro' which a quick Google image search turned up from an Auto Express test feature. I remember talking to Colin about it and he called bullshit about some police escort to Bristol and a test drive of a Eurofighter.

I recall a bloke (wasn't he a chauffeur or something?) who called himself G and hammed it up like something out of Biggles. He ended driving a bin lorry and I used to see him emptying my bins. Didn't he pass his log in details onto Scummy or his imaginary mate, Steve after they were barred for the umpteenth time?

IIRC he was a chauffeur (or he claimed to be) for one of the building societies based in Swindon, most likely Nationwide. A bit sad if he was reduced to driving a bin lorry. What happened to Canadian Bacon? Not sure if he migrated to this forum from Matt's older one. Am reminded of him as I've just booked a week to Canada on a special offer.... 7 nights was cheaper than 6

I think Colin and piers met him.

^^^ Stephen Guckel was his name, he did used to be a chauffeur at Nationwide. He went under the handle of 'G' for a while. I seem to remember that he went to one of the forum meets (was it at the Haynes motor museum) and met Colin, Piers, Blarno and Bryan.
The deluded Monaro chap was called Tom. He lived (or claimed to live) very near where my Mum lives (and also close to Simon P) and I had a couple of PM exchanges with him during his time on the forum but perhaps unsurprisingly he didn't commit to an actual meeting-up!
I was on the original Autocar forum as well, I joined in the Autumn of 2005 having lurked for a good six months or so.

I met G once in Swindon, so can confirm he’s real and he was one of the chauffeurs at Nationwide.

I've met Chris M, and also the driving instructor from Scotland who ended up in prison for sexual assault (that whole episode was interesting, wonder what he's up to now, I guess still protesting his innocence!), who's name escapes me.

Marlene still has the MX-5 somewhere I think.

Remember Tim Oldland? The RDQ was his idea, I think.
