Looks good but what is the square flagpole for?

Top work man.

The large post takes the place of a concrete post that was originally there and had the washing line attached to. Rather than fill the hole, I put a new wooden post in and used it as an anchor point for the decking frame.

Shoulda made it a bit lower, wouldn't need to have built the steps then!
There's a walkway near my house that goes over a marshy bit of ground that is made of decking planks. It has been closed off twice because it's impossible to walk on it whenever it's wet. The first time the council stapled chicken wire to it to improve the grip but, of course, yoofs started pulling it off and were causing near invisible trip wire hazards. Council then closed it again and have left it that way.

There was already a pair of steps there up to the old concrete patio so I had no choice but to make new steps. They were more of a faff than the decking itself.

Looks at least as good as the pro jobs being fielded on the architectural sites.

That looks great.
I'd recommend you get a couple of cheap Workmate type things next time to put your mitre saw on. I have mine sitting on one on a bit of old worktop and the other one is to rest the other end of long bits of wood on. It'll save you bending over on the ground and getting a sore back!!

Top job! Looks really smart.
You could put a couple of hanging basket holders off the "flagpole" to make it a feature as well as a practical washing line holder-upper.

Good effort! I love building stuff like this but never tried my hand at decking. A neighbour has some and it has become home to a family of rabbits who live underneath it.

I've pretty much just secured myself another decking job in August for a friend at work and possibly even a jaunt down the south of France to do some work on the gaffer's dad's house.
Mustn't grumble.

I think I saw that episode of Auf Weidersehen Pet. Great job, although I notice that, in contravention of the Disabilities Act of 1995, there is no ramp.

HSE should also be made aware of the lack of handrail.

Which side gets the hoist?

I am building a handrail once I have planed down some suitable timber.

Can you get some of that yellow and black tape to highlight the steps and a sign to warn of it being slippery when wet?
