My wife is away for the week, which meant a rare opportunity this evening to indulge a favourite culinary pleasure of mine, which she completely doesn’t get...baked beans on toast for supper...
Not remotely fancy or sophisticated, but just comforting and satisfying, and tasty too. Now I enjoy good quality cooking and new flavours as much as anyone but there are times when nothing can beat beans on toast.
What’s your simple pleasure when it comes to food?

A simple bacon sarnie with malt vinegar and pepper on either salt and pepper or a malted bloomer. Sometimes with brown sauce but rare. Now I am thinking of nothing but. Must get some bread tomorrow and have one.

A proper crispy roll(*) with several rashers of smoked bacon and HP. Lovely! *- not a bap, barm cake, cob or any other bastardisation of the breed ~ a ROLL.

I usually have a couple of emergency tins of beans and sausages tucked away for special occasions. Sugar free peanut butter on wholemeal bread I could have every day.

Another lover of beans on toast, though with a little curry powder and some veggie additives.
Heinz tomato soup, with bread (including crust) broken into it, just as mum used to.
Strong cheddar too - local Co-op deli used to do one called Cornish Craggie, which was perfection. Fuckers discontinued it against customers' wishes, and I can't find a trace of it on the internet. Gutting...

Jacket potato, beans and grated cheddar cheese for me. The jacket potato must be super fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside of course.
I’m with Andy on the fish finger sandwiches, they work particularly well when you get home after a night out.

Mmm fish finger sandwiches with a large quantity of Heinz Tomato sauce.
We quite often have beans on toast but it has to be the full fat beans, not those hideous sugar free ones.
A recent favourite has been a slice (or 2 or 3!) of nice bread - something like the cranberry & pecan ones from Tesco or M&S - with M&S Cornish Cove cheese on top.

Fish finger sandwiches are great but they have to be made with proper Birds Eye breaded fish fingers and white bread. Sometimes you see fish finger sandwiches on the menu in a pub or restaurant and they try and go all artisan, with fillets of real fish in a light batter and some fancy bread. I appreciate their effort but don't mess with a classic.

God there's so many these days, but top two are:-
Bacon & Egg on toast. Three rashers of smoked bacon, two eggs (one for each side of the sandwich) and Warburtons Toastie, lightly toasted with salt & pepper and HP sauce.
Cheese on toast - decent white cheddar and Warburtons extra thick.

Pity that they take so long to cook to my satisfaction - I'd have them more often if not. Needs to be a really big potato. I start it off in the microwave on the auto cook baked potato setting, then into the oven for 20-25mins to crisp up, so about 35min in total.

I had two dippy eggs and toast soldiers this morning. And I'm not ashamed.

I decided to have baked beans on toast for lunch on Saturday ,probably only the second time I have eaten that meal in the last ten years .I forgot how magnificent it is.

Beans and (not on) toast is a favourite Saturday lunchtime treat for me too, when the family aren't around.

Something worth trying is some goats cheese in curry (Any kind) and good nan bread (Peshwari SP) with mango chutney.

Jacket potato, beans and grated cheddar cheese for me. The jacket potato must be super fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside of course. Yes, that's another one - and it must have the cheese!
They used to offer this option in the canteen in the evenings at my old firm.
Along with chilli con carne, which also needs sour cream and grated cheddar.

Beans and (not on) toast is a favourite Saturday lunchtime treat for me too, when the family aren't around. BURN HIM! You need 2/3 of a can of Heinz beans and three pieces of toast. 1 piece goes on the plate and has the beans poured on it, the other two must be cut into triangles and placed around the outside of the first.

I do two side by side, with the remained bisected and at top and bottom.
I confess that I have an eating methodology that I don't stray from, but that might just be personal weirdness...
