This (although it's not for sale and it's the wrong side of the Pond, with the wheel on the wrong side too):

I test drove an acid green one back in 1999 and it was fantastic. That engine is a proper snorty, old skool twin cam beast and I can only imagine it makes the Almera a bit of a weapon - it was more than enough in the Primera I had.

With that dashboard, it is proper 80's, I love it. I would never be brave enough to spend money on it though.

Opel Monza. I've never driven a Monza, but I drove a few Senators that had the 24v same engine and they were brilliant, for the time. Gutsy and grunty, even with the 3 speed (or was it 4 speed?) auto box.
I love the electronic dash on that generation of Vauxhall / Opel's. IIRC it was standard on the Astra GTE, Carlton GSi and Senator (trim?) as well as the Monza GTE. It was actually really good to use and probably better in design terms than a lot of the new stuff that is around now.

I had 2 Astra GTEs with that dash and they were surprisingly good, with the exception of the large speedo lettering which flickered under hard acceleration and the fuel gauge, which despite being split into single segments, only depleted 2 segments at a time.
Switching to KMH when people weren't looking was more fun than it should have been - Jo's face when she glanced at the speedo and thought we were doing 140 up the M60 was a picture.

I didn't realise that Bittern cars were based on GMs of this vintage.

It probably got sent to auction to raise a bit of much needed cash.

My old 370Z is still on the market, not sure how it ended up here though. It probably got sent to auction to raise a bit of much needed cash. I assume so. It looks like its had a bit of money spent on it - wheels refurbed and, hopefully some new front tyres & brakes!

Could that GT3 be in a less imaginative colour?

^ The price is a bit steep considering the age of the car and the number of battle scars it appears to be wearing

The new owner will also be able to rent it out for use as the Eastern European bad guy's transport on any number of Cockney gangster movies.

I've seen a few late 80s, unrestored Mercs reappearing on the road in the last couple of years. Oddly most are in that shade of blue!

I know Macs don't particularly like it, plus it's apparently a hackers paradise - or at least, it was; no adverts is the siren call, but not good security either.

So we’ve been going through some changes and are looking at staying in California for longer. Therefore, as both of the cars are old, we need to bring them up a number of years. I need a 7 seater to replace our van, and we want to downsize my car for something smaller. I’m hanging on to it to keep it as a third vehicle- it’s a 19 year old Lexus RX300 (with ETC snow mode ;-) still running with 265,000+ miles on the clock! So the long and short of it is, I’ve found myself being very interested in 5-6 year old BMW X5s- especially the 535i/d though the d is a rarer vehicle- with the extra seats in the back.
Regarding the smaller car, we’re looking at many options- Audi, VW, Toyota, Kia, Ford and others. The great thing is the choice of cars on the table are way better than I’d have had we been living in Ireland.
But still very keen on those X5s...

I think that was the sweet spot for X5's design wise. However I thought that diesels were banned in California. For that size and weight the 35D is the better engine with more torque. My Walnut Creek living best friend has an RS6 and even he is saying that he is feeling some pressure to get a car with a greener footprint!
